Do you think Texas by 2025 Will Have The Economy of a Third World Nation?

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?i...

Answer:
I do not know what TX is like right now.

I think in many ways Calif. already is. You should see it here........ We are losing our country our way of life. Los Angeles and surrounding cities has turned in to Tijuana. It is dirty, trashy, and run down. Our schools are a HUGE joke our hospitals are unbelievably scary (8 to 10 hours waits).

I think it is already happening.
POSSIBLY
texas is pretty much its own nation. texans are so arrogant they make the united states look bad
Sorry, my crystal ball is in the shop.
It will be poorer than it is today. By 2025 China will be the leading world power and America will probably be number two. That's if people continue to tolerate the federal government. As America gets poorer people will become less happy and want more power devolved to states. That might eventually lead to the breakup of the US. However, if the US manages to compete against china and keep it's peopel tolerant of the federal government then Texans will still be a little poorer but not quite 3rd world. The only way to compete against china is to pay workers less though and that will create unhappiness.
Being an American.. Texas will prevail...as a Californian ...they can kiss my aass !
Well said Zoe.
Hi Zoe, good to see your question. No, I think Texas will never have the economy of a third world nation. I think if a third world nation is for sale, Texans can buy it, without going into debt.
Highly unlikely.
I do think China may be a First world nation, I'm not so sure about Texas becoming impoverished, as a lone state or group of southern states but I wouldn't be surprised if around that time the whole country isn't standing on bread lines.
well yes consider the fact some Americans they already
have a third world mentality I will not surprise to see the same
thing for the economy..

America is for sell
yes. when i lived in El Paso Texas in 91 to 93 the unemployment rate was very high. i had a hard time finding a job. there was illegals living and working there. when the illegal lost their job they would move to Dallas or San Antonio.
Actually, I am one of Dr. Murdock's doctoral students. The biggest problem Texas faces (as do most states bordering with Mexico) are problems associated with the education system---funding specifically. Having said that, poorly funded education is the root cause of MANY social ills, but if you want to see the SPECIFICS you might check this out: http://txsdc.utsa.edu/pubsrep/pubs/txcha...

In fact, this editorial is pretty much it in a nutshell:
Texas is changing. It is growing older and browner, with the elderly and Hispanic populations growing at an unprecedented rate. And as the populations increase, so will the challenges.
If current trends continue, Texas' work force will be less educated and less skilled. State services, already burdened, may be strained to a point never experienced before. The numbers provided by Murdock support the dire warnings:

Hispanics may represent 53 percent of the population by 2030, compared to 30.3 percent for Anglos and 9.2 percent for blacks.

More than half of Hispanics 25 and older had failed to finish high school in 2000; fewer than 20 percent had completed some college, and only about 10 percent had a college degree.

Hispanics could occupy 38 percent to 52 percent of the Texas work force by 2030.

By 2030, 16 percent to 20 percent of the population will be 65 or older, an increase of about 10 percent over 2000. Most will be Anglos. Of Texans older than 65 in 2000, 72.6 percent were Anglo, 16.7 percent Hispanic.

The aging population — coupled with a segment that is less educated and, thus, earning less money — will strain social services, including those for the elderly.

"An educated work force raises income levels, which generates businesses activity and increases the market for goods and services," Murdock said. "It also increases investments for new businesses, which in turn increases tax revenues. Higher education equals higher incomes."

Sen. Pete Gallego, D-Alpine, said education is perhaps the most important issue facing the state.

"This is really a wake-up call," he said. "The conclusion is that by the year 2025, if we keep doing what we're doing now, Texas will have the economy of a Third Word country. I have a son who will be 21 in 2025, and that's just not the kind of Texas I want to turn over to him."

If these demographic trends pose challenges, however, they also present opportunities.

"Growth is a double-edged sword," Murdock said. "With challenges come opportunities. The key is to have the opportunities be greater than the challenges."

Good or bad, Murdock presents his data pure and unvarnished. He is a demographer, not a spin doctor, and he leaves the politicking to the politicians.
Not if we nationalize U.S. oil interests. Third World nations that have nationalized their oil interests are zooming measurably past the U.S. in quality of schools and educational scores, health care, infant morbidity and mortality, violent crime rates and other areas of social stability. The U.S. is lower than MANY Third World nations in math and science scores and our children will not be able to compete in the global economy's job market. Our HIGHEST scores are below Norway's LOWEST. Most Americans are so critically deficient in critical thinking skills, they cannot think well enough for themselves to remain free. Republicans and Christian Conservatives gutted our public school system and instead of investing wisely in our children and the future, we, the taxpayer, gave the money like good sheep instead to Republican welfare programs, such as arms deals and battleships that were outdated before they were even built. We are about to get back right in our faces what we invested in. Violence and stupidity.
ONLY IF YOU ZOE, STAY THERE.
