"The passport requirement does NOT apply to U.S. citizens traveling to or returning directly from a U.S. territory. U.S. citizens returning directly from a U.S. territory are not considered to have left the United States and do not need to present a passport. U.S. territories include the following: Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

If you have a green card, that and good id should be all you'll need. Puerto Rico is a US protectorate and Puerto Ricans are US citizens. It's not a foreign country.
I believe after the first of 07' ,you need a passport to go anywhere outside the continental U.S.

Travelling to Puerto Rico from inside the US is a domestic trip -- no passport needed, just the normal identification you'd need to fly anywhere else in the US.
So, it's the same as flying to, say, Dallas or Seattle or Hawaii.
Puerto Rico belongs to United States. your driver license should be enough for a id

I lived in Puerto Rico as a greencard holder and there is no passport requirement to enter- it is part of the US as far as the customs, post office, etc goes.
So, no, you don't.
And you can also become a naturalized Us citizen in Puerto Rico. The lines are much shorter there than in the continental US.
However, the way most Puerto Ricans view themselves is different. Most consider themselves to be a Latin American "country" that is in free association with the US. So, they would say " we are US citizens, but we are not Americans. Our citizenship is North American but our nationality is Puerto Rican".
I would caution you that if you fall in love with Puerto Rico, and want to stay there by finding a job, you may not fare very well. The locals do not usually view it very favorably when non-Puerto Ricans start looking for work there. Some people got lucky there but I was given to understand that Puerto Rican jobs were for Puerto Ricans. It is illegal but I have not heard of many discrimination suits going on. You need money to stay there while your suit is in progress. And how are you going to do that without a job?
Better start a business there.
But for a visit it is great!
