Those are merely the criteria that should be required for immigrants to meet in order to secure their citizenship HOWEVER that is not the issue at hand. The problem is that these people broke our laws and demonstrated their willingness to cheat the system at the expense of U.S. citizens. Taking this into account, they should NOT be granted citizenship until punitive measures have been taken upon them AND meet the criteria above.
The people who have been waiting in line (for years in some cases) to legally obtain U.S. citizenship should be given priority.
Only if they become legal citizens. It would be the same as saying, "you do not need a drivers license if you can drive a car". If you want a civilized society with the rule of law, you must obey the laws.
i don't really care of they can or cannot speak english, that's not what bothers me. they should have to come and be citizens of this country legally like my grandparents did. it's just not fair that they could take the easy way out.
Learning the common language of the country is expected of an immigrant NO MATTER what country they are immigrating to, or coming from. It's part of assimilating to the country you are moving to.
And no, illegal aliens are not "legal" if they learn English, or any of the other conditions you mentioned. This is expected AFTER the immigration process, not INSTEAD OF. They can come if they follow legal channels like all other immigrants attempting to immigrate here now. They don't get to JUMP IN FRONT OF legal immigrants.
Dude, you're dreaming if you think they'd be willing to do ANY of that stuff. Let's be realistic. There is no motivation for their doing anything different from what they already do, which is to get pity to gain control of this country social system by social system and on to the political arena.
The real true issue is that they're freaking ILLEGAL. That's how it started.

All you profess is fine and good but these people broke the law by not following the proper protocol to enter this nation in effect placing an unfair burden not only upon the citizens of this nation but as well placing a debilitating stigma on those immigrants that have entered and assimilated into this culture LEGALLY...so sorry grasshopper.
If they are legal they can speak any language they want. However as I mentioned earlier, if they expect to grow and prosper then they should make the effort to learn the native language.

Legal immigrants have never been a problem in this Country or letting them stay here. The problem is with the 12 + million that are here illegal and have no right to sponge off our taxes, health facilities, Social Security etc. These include many criminals and they have no intention of obeying the laws of this land. The systems put into play in this Country to benefit those of us who pay taxes, work and try to live a non intrusive life to others are being robbed of our hard earned benefits. You are being robbed by these illegals my friend whether you believe it or not.
We are not saying the illegals should learn English, we want them deported. Those that come here on work permit, green card or other legal means need to learn English.
