If most legal & illegal Immigrants to the USA are Mexican(before/after 1848) How do U define American Culture?
Answer:
American culture is a culture of respect. Ultimately it means a respect for freedom, so Americans respect their differences, but it also means respect for the law because civilization is only as vast as cooperation and the law outlines the standards by which we cooperate.
For the record anything that took place before the information age becomes irrelevent because until then the world was not truly a global stage. Even in the 1900's man was still struggling with being civilized. It took several American revolutions for us to grow into it. Starting with breaking away from England, freeing the slaves, the equal rights movement, the sexual revolution, and even more recently, the world wide web and the communication revolution. Imagine all the countries in the world where there is no free access to information online, let alone the ability to communicate or express yourself freely.
When foreigners come here we accomodate their culture as much as they assimilate ours, but there's a flow rate issue that's very important. When external cultures flow in at a rate that is greater than their ability to assimilate, the existing culture is supplanted or displaced. It becomes a numbers game. This is why there is an immigration process, to throttle the rate at which new cultures are fed into the existing ones, giving them a chance to assimilate and adapt the goals and ideals of the new culture.
The reason this is a problem with Mexico and illegal Mexicans specifically is because of their lack of respect for the law first (they can at least apply for citizenship or sign the guest book on their way in -- but they seem to have no shame or self-respect), their inability to assimilate the culture second. There is a real problem with illegals coming here who never learn the language, never gain an education beyond what they had in their own country, and the establishment of a labor class that allows themselves to be exploited here because it's like living in paradise compared to being exploited in their country of origin.
But the balance is shifting. When enough people come here who don't understand this vote (and illegals vote all the time, the voting system doesn't seem to qualify voters) they change the laws to accomodate what was their way of life in their country turning this country into that culture. If that's what they want they should stay in Mexico and fix their own government instead of trying to turn ours into theirs and have the US turn into a third world country where people don't respect the law and start the slippery slope into a modern dark age.
This is what happened with the fall of the roman empire which lead to the dark ages that followed. It wasn't until Christianity and the Crusades emerged that civilization was restored. During the crusades it was a battle between respect for free will and life (Christianity) and living a life by rules of nature where the strongest exploit or kill those weaker and eliminate free will (Islam).
American Culture is a new concept, and it is heavily influenced by Mexican cultures
