You might be able to get H1 if you work for a non-profit institution and some other eligible employers who are not subject to H1b visa caps. They are called Exempt employers. You might also qualify for J1 category. Go for ones which are not subject to "two year waiver". There are categories of employers who can so qualify.
Process is:
Find an employer who understands the visa process. And is willing to hire you.
Once you have employer in place, find a lawyer.
File the application in premium processing and get the visa.

Check with companies like Yoh Scientific. They might be able to either sponsor you on a contract position or point you in the right direction. Also San Diego has an area they call Biotech Beach. Multiple firms that do your type of work. You may want to look there too but the rents are going to be higher than Phoenix
