Have you been to China? I have been to both Shanghai and Beijing. The touristy areas are pretty nice, although people still use the sidewalk as a toilet (both #1 and #2). However, if you go little bit further into the suburbs, it's like living in the slums. It's disgusting and dangerous. There are no safety regulations. I saw construction workers literally hanging from a wire without a hat or anything. You can't drink public water or else you'll die. It's chaos there. I can only imagine what the factories are like there. It's probably slave labor. The govt controls everything. They censor the internet, newspaper, tv, etc. You can't come on sites like yahoo and start a debate about illegal immigration.
So sure, let's become just like communist China.
Sorry I didn't read your question correctly, there is no way we can complete with China on any level, they pay their workers pennies on the dollar. No about enrichment that includes illigal cheap labor
Even if you can get past the illegals decision that their right to cross our borders without our permission, supersedes our right to control our borders, the back-end cost of illegals and their families are too high. Remember that cheap labor is adding to the bottom line of the business that employ them, not the tax payers that have to pay for them and their families care and feeding.

Labor unions have driven up costs (wages) forcing many companies to move their business entirely overseas
The other part lies with minimum wage. Businesses in the US are forced to pay an artificially high minimum, thus reducing profitability.
Without illegals this nation would be like mexico right now. It is an indisputable fact.

China has population control. One child per family.
Illegals have no birth control and want amnesty for a VERY large family. Once a legal citizen at low wages(and no birth control) the government will have to provide education, food, medical bills and pay the hospital bills for the use of the maternity ward (just for starters) The US is already on too many fifth-generation welfare families/low paid workers with no birth-control.
We can not compete against China in production and manufacturing, China has basically slave labor while our people enjoy a decent wage and good working conditions. I would not ask an illegal immigrant to work under sweet shop conditions. Also the United States has a much higher cost of living it is much more expensive to live here and if we pay really cheap wages we will just have to turn around and give those who are working poor government assistance. A person could not survive in the US for the wages that are paid in China, so even with the lower wages that most illegal immigrants are paid we could not compete against China.
It will be very hard for any one to compete against China because they basically have slave wages. As someone already pointed out the laborer in China makes .25 per hour if I am not mistaken.

That's funny, because "with" the more illegals we let in, the more we look like Mexico! Perhaps you should study economics before you make foolish statements like this!
It doesn't make sense to import illegal labor to save on our cost of fruit, then spend billions to educate their children, allow them to leach from our health care system and clog our roads and other public services. Believe me, illegal immigration benefits ONLY two groups, the businesses that hire them, and the immigrants themselves. Over all, the subsidy given to these two groups is paid by everyone, which, when you add it all up, doesn't benefit anyone!
I wouldn't say we've been "enormously enriched" by illegal immigrants. When I was a kid, only rich people could afford gardeners. But let me ask you this: does it make our nation richer if many of us (I do my own lawn!) now have gardeners? Does it make sense that we work longer hours and pay much higher taxes just so we can afford to hire a cheap illegal to mow our lawn? In case you are wondering, the answers are NO!
Ponder this: many illegals do construction work. They come in and work for low wages and probably no benefits. Well, has that kept home prices cheap? NO! Home prices are beginning to recede for other reasons, like bond prices. How many of you reading this can actually afford a home? I could not afford a home at today's prices. I bought seven years ago when it was affordable, perhaps when there was much less illegal labor!

Because it will be wrong to lower the standards; we shouldn't give a way workers rights, that took so long to get.
A way to do this, it will be granting immigrants in the USA, the same workers rights and duties, and take advantage of the extra work-force they represent. And try to be responsible consumers, by no buying "goods" made by "modern day invisible slaves" somewhere else. (you can buy local or "fair trade" products)

I had thought of that, and I was laughed at. I was told that America doesn't have "sweat shops". It is funny though, someone I know(born American citizen) worked with a bunch of illegals on green cards(if they even really had them) and the treatment she experienced from those co-workers was like that of a sweat shop. The Mexicans she worked with were racist and mocked about how they could get just quite and get higher paying jobs, while she struggled to survive. So, yeah, if the tables were turned it would be interesting.
THat's what the whitehouse is doing.but you are not suppose to know that "Birdseye" and a dozen other worldwide companies are benefitting from the 'bleeding heart liberals' again.
Hispanic Americans are replaced and no Social security is paid or legal right to sue the company, and criminals are making money shipping in these poor Mexicans, blackmailing them.and I would guess demanding favors, as well.
So, if you want your hospitals to shut down, more illegal drugs smuggled in, prostitution and aids and tuberculosis to revive..(Leprosy has jumped from 900 since 1972 to 8,000 last year) all I can say is good luck!
Because we are one of the richest nations in the world. There are Labor Laws against pretty much enslaving cheap labor and not paying what they are worth. There are also laws against sweat shops and Child Labor.
These are things practiced in China. China is pretty much a Communist country... meaning they have no choice or voice when it comes to being treated as they are. They make whatever they can and support their families. To them, that's all that matters. The United States is not a nation to ' get on board' with the practices of other countries. Never has been that way... never will.
