Does my Canadian passport need to be valid a certain # of months from my travel date to the U.S.?

Entering U.S. on April 13 returning on April 28. Canadian passport expires May 2nd.

Answer:
You are fine! As long as your passport is valid on the day you plan to leave the U.S., you will not have any problems entering the U.S. Since you are planning on returning on April 28th and your passport expires on May 2nd, then you will not have any problems utilizing your current passport. Bon voyage!
I'd think that was fine, particularly since you would still only need other ID to go back by land or sea.

I would, in case you are delayed.
You should be in the clear! But just in case, refer to my source link.
I have heard that the passport needs to be valid for at least 3 months after your estimated return. I know I saw it on the net, it was some celebrity but as things worked out, the celeb got special treatment and was allowed to go any way.

Do check on this before your trip to be sure.
