Do you believe the guest worker plan is going to further destroy middle class by driving down wages.?
Answer:
It AMAZES me when I hear "these illegal aliens are only doing jobs that Americans won't do"
Who did the job before the illegals? We own a construction company and illegals are the majority now of work crews for other builders, including illegal electricians (no cert papers), illegal plumbers (no cert papers) and illegal welders (no cert papers). If your definition of "jobs that Americans won't do is Electrician, Plumber and Welder then I think you need to educate yourself. Construction companies use illegals and use them illegally by disobeying Electrical laws, Plumbers laws and Welders laws. If I committed that many crimes they would put me UNDER the jail. By the way we use certified Electricians, Plumbers and Welders AND all taxpaying citizens - we have known most of them for a long time. Those are very well paid occupations being invaded.
count on it
NO, it will allow the middle class to continue to afford common needs items such as food, etc.
We can eliminate all of the immigrants; but be prepared to pay $15 per lb for apples.
No, multi national companies, globalism and our own govt. is going to destroy the middle class..They are the one's who pull the strings..Take up with your congressmen/women..
I doubt it. Look, these illegal aliens are doing jobs that no one wants, and I wouldn't even say they are typical "middle class" jobs either. Americans don't want to do that type of labor (e.g., working in the farming industry, restaurant industry, cleaning industry). What's more, American companies don't want to pay even minimum wage for some of these jobs. So, it sort of behooves us to have these people doing this type of work.
On the other hand, my issue is that these people are coming into the country illegally, and then are being provided with welfare, medicare, cheap housing, and protection for their 15 kids and wife. You get my point? There has to be some formal way to manage this issue...not to mention to ensure that terrorists are sneaking in under the guise of being on a working contract.
Finally, countries like Mexico, I feel they are more than happy when their people leave illegally to come into the U.S. That is one less person THEY need to take care of.
We need to come up with a smart plan that allows these people to apply to come into our country and work. BUT, this plan should not come at the price of every other American paying for their healthcare, wages, housing, etc.
Have a terrific day!
the immigration idea, will be bad for America, it will change the whole demographics of the country, it is estimated it will cost the country over 2 trillion dollars per year,..
I don't know. But I'm all for destroying labor unions.
No. By and large, these guest workers are taking jobs and wages that middle class folks don't want. If anything, the guest workers will bolster the middle class by letting them enjoy more luxury services. If no immigrant guest workers, the middle class folks would have to cut their own lawns, clean their own houses, etc.
And the unions are mostly destroying themselves, focusing on short-term parochial interests, rather than changing with the times and reaching out to new members, or looking at the good of the big picture, not petty day to day stuff. Too few of the unions remotely represent the longer-term interests of their membership.
It is much more likely to continue driving up unemployment among America's underachievers in school (many of them minorities, especially Blacks).
More under-educated guest workers [the average educational level in Mexico is about 6th grade] will continue to work at low wages and thus keep taking jobs from under-educated Americans.
The crisis of the middle class exists primarily among those who are not increasing their job skills [their education and learning]. Increasingly, their new job competitors aren't guest workers, but foreign workers in places like India, China, and the Phillipines. Since those peoples are increasing their job skills, if you are standing still on skills, you'll soon be falling behind on wages (or losing your job altogether).
I think 'guest worker' is a flop, and I'm for border enforcement
Mexico is going to have to figure out how to economically support its' citizens, without resorting to illegal immigration or organized crime, and part of that is taking issue with their own population growth. WE need to take issue with the Church on the sinister pro-growth propaganda they keep spreading, both in our country, and in Mexico and other parts of the world, the old 'go forth and multiply' is wearing a little thin, here...
When you look at the facts and take emotion out of the issue - it is clear that the immigrants are not hurting the middle class. Our local newspaper looked into this issue recently and published a special edition on immigration. Here are just a few of the facts they uncovered. 1. 82% of the Hispanics in the United States are employed in jobs such as farming, cleaning, food service, and basic construction - none of which are typical middle class or union jobs. 2. In our state - Hispanics "cost " our state $237 million in health, education, and prison costs - yet they paid in $257 million dollars in taxes. That left our state with a nice $20 million surplus. 3. Most surprising of all - (despite the claims that crime has risen since our area population of Hispanics has increased dramatically ) Hispanics accounted for only 22% of all crimes while whites accounted for over 68%.
When you look at the facts - you just can't support the idea that Hispanics are hurting middle class America.
I don't know about driving wages down but they might slow down the raising of them ...Is that something we can afford? Especailly in California.
My state has a large population of Mexicant immigrants, some legal but most are illegal. I don't know anyone who's middle class here anymore,it's either upper or lower class so yes, eventually there will no longer be a middle class.
Yes. It seems that as long as"Corporate America" is calling all the shots in the "Domestic Policy" agenda, then the race to the bottom line is all that is important. The idea that what is good for the business world is good for America was once a sound one, but a new paradigm has taken over. It has been said that "that a raising tide lifts all boats", it seems that if you have no boat you just drown and it is your fault for not being able to adapt to the changing environment. When the CEO's and the CFO's make 500 times more than what the entry level employee makes it is no wonder that the middle class is all but extinct now.
It's amnesty... not a guest worker program.
It's a disaster for Americans! It's political posturing by the ego centered Kennedy and Mc Cain!

We can.,.with the Will:
Enforce the many laws already on the books.
Build the fence as the law currently dictates..
Deport illegal aliens when contacted.
Cooperate with local law enforcement when allerted of illegal aliens.
Put employers who hire illegals on notice they will be shut down.

I do not believe the hype. The implication is that the middle class are barely educated or have limited qualifications. With that mind set we are to believe anyone that can swing a hammer could built a housing tract. It is up to our legislature to protect those "other" jobs by forcing businesses to adhere to certain qualifying conditions. It is up to home owners who solicit questionable labor to mow their lawns or paint their fences. To call the general populations to take up "arms" with malice and anger is just another manipulative political tool the politicians use to get our votes. If they were doing there jobs for all these years we would not be having these heated discussions today. Instead they themselves were hiring illegals as a form of cheap nanny and other services. We do have major companies out sourcing their work oversees for cheaper rent, labor and tax incentives. These are not marginally unskilled jobs, but, jobs that require degrees. How many college grads are recruited to work oversees? I am sure no one is complaining about them.
