Is it discrimination for a state, city or town to want to study the impact of illegal immigration?

In order to protect its schools, its people and its economy?

Also why do you think that some special interest groups try to block a comprehensive study of the real impact of illegal immigration?

Thanks

Answer:
Well...let's see. Is it discrmination..NO.
It's advisory to study the impact impartially, so anyone calling it discriminatory is simply tossing another race red herring into the fray.

Groups attempting to block it fear the truth. School Systems are failing all over the Country to provide basic education. In short, we're graduating kids that can't read, write, or do simple math. To put it bluntly, these same kids won't even be able to use a simple forum like the YA boards because they won't be able to understand even the simplest concepts posted here. Look at some of the posts here and it's easy to see how "wonderful" public education is in todays society. Then add in the welfare, healthcare, and legal costs to the Country and you have not a disaster in the making...you have a disaster unfolding before our very eyes.

Nice froggy. :)
You know very well why they want to block it. The outcry that would occur in failing school districts when the burden of illegal immigrant education costs was disclosed would be incredible. It won't be as bad for crime, but disproportionate, we already know that.

No it isn't discriminatory. ALL would be asked to prove citizenship or legal presence.
We do not need a study. We need illegals deported.

Save the money for the arrest, jail, court process and deportation of every stinking illegal alien in America.

I live in Illinois and illegals in Chicago and the six county region cost American taxpayers $3.5 billion each year.

To put that figure into perspective, the Budget to run the government of the City of Chicago (Fire, Police, Government - everything except the schools which are run separately) is $5.0 billion.

You can add hospital, food stamps, section 8 housing and every other type of welfare program to the tab illegal aliens cost American taxpayers. And do you know who picks up the tab? That is right - every American taxpayer - the ones who are not slumlords or business holders who profit off of 20 million illegal aliens with America picking up the tab.
I don't think it's discrimination. I think it's a sheer necessity. The same way studies are done into the impact of the growing senior citizen population, baby boomers, and handicapped, this type of study also needs to be done so that schools and communities know what they need by way of services if nothing else.
discriminate v to use good judgment so by definition discrimination is using good judgement to study effects of actions taken
No, not at all..But if you just focus on one group and label this entire group, it does appear to be so..
It would be fine if the study could be done without bias and to factor all the effects of illegal immigation. If you look only at the use of social programs and school systems and do not consider the beneficial aspects then it would not be a fair study and should be protested.
Most illegals can not avoid paying social security and medicaid taxes not to mention the business that are started, the rent paid, the groceries bought, the clothing and other items that are bought. I have seen in my town, areas that have been abandoned brought to life by immigrants. If it was easier to enter the country to work legally then we could see an even greater impact in a positive way, but until we raise the number of legal entrants and allow for the poorest residants the chance to come and fufill our needs while giving them a chance to support their families then this issue would be resolved.
On the contrary, it should be mandatory for every municipality. After all, taxpayers have the absolute right to know where their money is being spent, and whether they are making a wise investment.

I'm not certain about the specific "special interest groups" you're referring to, but any group that would try to block such due diligence is not acting in the best interests of the taxpayers.
I couldn't agree more with DAR -

The groups know what would happen, and what would be revealed - that illegal immigration DOES hurt this nation. And it is hurting in the worst place - the schools that teach our young!
Although I agree with the previous poster that we should just throw them out of our country and stop wasting our precious tax money on them, it is also necessary to do such studies. This would show once and for all that the Americans are suffering because of their presence in the U.S. I wish they'd do this type of study in every city. It's definitely not discrimination. This is called justice and truth. If people try to block this study, they are only afraid to find out the real facts about the negative impacts of illegal aliens in the U.S.
It is not discrimination, I would favor such studies if they were made up of an impartial group, and not aimed at proving an invalid point That It is a real impact study of wages and taxes withheld, types of employment and actual social service/numbers being used by the group. The amount of tax dollars generated by the group to that community.
Absolutely not.

To those who feel that we have to look at all groups or look into the positive aspects of illegal immigration - here is my response.

We do look at all groups by stating "illegal immigrant". Nowhere in the article or in any part of this is anyone saying "illegal latino immigrants" or "illegal chinese immigrants". So there is no racism or bias.

As for the positive aspects of illegal immigrants - there are very few for the average American. I save a little bit on a few items and they help a few local businesses, BUT....the cost of those things are huge to me. I subsidize business owners as they use illegals to drive down wages. They routinely send the majority of their earnings to another country. Some do pay some (very little) in taxes but most get paid under the table. Those that do pay taxes do not even come close to paying the cost of educating their children, let alone medical, police, fire, roads, social services, etc.

Illegal immigrants are HEAVILY subsidized labor - who take far more then they contribute!
There are endless studies being done about these things. Just because NBC reports an issue in some town, it does not mean the census and all other research isn't happening.
