Issues emigrating from UK to US as a 16 year old? (serious answers only, please!)?
Also, do I have to have a visa before I get into the US? I read something about the UK being an exception to requiring a visa to enter the country. If not, does a passport alone cover a stay in the United States long enough for me to get a visa and later citizenship?
Answer:
I really think that you do need a visa to get into the country, if you want to stay for more than 3 months. Also the person who you said wants to employ you, will need to sponser you so you that you can apply for a green card. I've just turned 17, and moved to the U.S last year from England, but i did come in on my dads visa. I think you would need to find out what types of visa are avaliable to you first, then apply for one. You may need to talk to your future employer because he will need to sponser you, so that you can work. You passport alone will not work otherwise i'm sure the whole of England would be living in America!
Lardman9 is correct about having your employer sponsor you. You WILL need a visa since there are various types of visas. There are temporary ones such as: tourist, temp. work, etc., and permanent ones--which are a bit more tricky.
The very best thing that I can recommend to you is: Contact our embassy or a U.S. consulate office and ask them. That's what they're there to do. I'm sure they can get you headed in the right direction.
Good Luck from Texas!
Hi Brendan
Most 16 year olds in the US are still in School. The previous answers were correct you will need a visa. The visa waiver scheme is only for tourists and you can only stay 90 days.
Getting a green card is a long winded affair and can take over a year even with a sponsor.
Contact the American Embassy in London for more information.

Hope that helps and I hope it all works out well for you.
