How to marry an International Student?

I'm 28 and born and raised in the US. My gf is an international student from Vietnam and has been here for 2 years on a student visa going to college. We plan to get married next year but I really don't have much detail on what's involved and how I should go about it. Can someone with experience in this give some pointers, things to watch out for, websites with info? Is it necessary to have a lawyer?

Thanks for any info

Answer:
I just mailed the paper-work for my Viet wife and step-daughter's green cards on Tuesday. If you wait until after you are married, you will need to do the following:
You will both need to fill out USCIS document G-325A. It is a biographical sheet. You will each also need a 2x2 passport style photo.
You will need to fill out USCIS form I-130 (Petition for Alien Relative).
You will need to submit a copy of your birth certificate or passport to prove your citizenship. You will also need a copy of your Marriage Certificate.
The fee is $190 but I hear it will be going up significantly.
The forms are straight-forward and can be completed with-out a lawyer. I called my congressman's office and they answered questions and wrote a very nice cover letter for us.
The forms are down loadable and come with plain instructions.
Good Luck
Get go down to city hall and say I do
You can just marry her without any problem. There is law stopping you.

The potential problem will come AFTER you two are married.

Once you two are married, she can apply for a green card. If she does not have any criminal history, then the process will be pretty quick. You will need the following items for INS:

(1) marriage certificate.
(2) bank joint account.
(3) records that show the same home address.
(4) pictures before, during and after you two get married. It will be more helpful if you can provide pictures of you two together (ie, on a trip) before you two get married.
(5) be sure her parents know (and agree) to the marriage.
(6) be sure she speaks English...
(7) go to INS and fill out all necessary forms.

If you two can provide all the information listed above, then she should be able to receive a green card. You two cannot resolve the marriage within two years, or there is a great chance that she will lose her green card. After two years, she will have to pay $1010 to change her status, then she will be able to apply for citizenship.

hope this helps.
...does she want you in order to get a green card? If so, she might be dangerous...because she'd just leave u after she gets her green card
Go to Vegas, do in a glamorous way - then file for a visa for a permanent stay for your GF.
You may want to delay your wedding for another 6 months. The process will take about a year and a half and about $800-$1000 us cash on fees. Me and my wife just got done with that part and it not hard but the more details the better! You first want to file for a k-1 visa ( fiance). There is about 3-6 different forms and about 10 other items you will need to be copied. The instructions are very clear on what you need to submit but offer more information (such as pic, email history, engagement ring receipt etc...) to ensure your relationships is real.
You can marry her... just like you marry American girl... Then your fun begins. As soon as you guys are married, you need to file adjustment of status to request permanent residency. You will need to collect tons of documents to file for this! You can complete this process without a lawyer, but its better off and accurate to have a lawyer work on your case.
