Should a points system be introduced [like Australia] to reduce immigration into UK?
Answer:
The points system is a great idea - if it applies to all immigrants equally.
The problem with the points system is that it is negated by Australia's commitment to the Refugee convention, in which Australia has agreed to allow refugees into Australia - who have absolutely no abilities or are beneficial to Australia. They are allowed into Australia on humanitarian grounds.
Allowing refugees into Australia completely undermines the Points system which then stops good hard working people from coming into Australia in favour of refugees.
I believe that everyone equally should be allowed to come to Australia - as long as they have abilities such as good english, a commitment to becoming good Australians, working hard, learning what Australia is about, and forgetting their loyalties to their previous country.
The points system is totally useless because of the Refugee convention. Instead of protecting Australia, the point system discriminates against the people who have abilities and who really want to work and become an australian.
First thing the U.K should do - is rip up the Refugee convention. Believe me - you will save yourself all of the bullshit that Australia has.
,No they should ban Immigration outright, and start deporting people
Definitely. Australia have their problems but I think the system is much better, i,e. only letting people in that can offer a service to the country and not be handed out benefits and a house.
Yes if not more stricter that Australia.
I guess it would be fairer. It would also please the Daily Mail reading population of the UK on issues of immigration, but I am not sure how you sort out the issue of asylum for those readers, unless we ban all asylum. Personally, I am not happy with the asylum system, but I am not sure how to improve it. I believe we should offer asylum, just not sure how we should do it.
No...It wouldn't happen. The UK need immigrants, otherwise it wouldn't make any money from parking fines.
lol
YES YES YES....
I think you'll find that such a system is going to be introduced next year. I'm not opposed to it myself.
Points system is for benifit of country. This is called brain drain for the countries where highly skilled people with best qualification migrate to a better country for better job prospects. So giving that country considerable services to the country for no invesment for their study or skills and therefore it is encouraged by many countries. The problem lies when an unskilled person enters into the country who don't want to work and just puts burdon on economy by claiming too many benifits without doing any work. Those people should be dealt effectively which includes too many assylum seekers as well.
Actually there is points system to get into UK already in place. This is called HSMP (Highly skilled Migration plan)
Information of this is available at the home office web site.
In Short an applicant needs to show his qualification , salary, savings and how easily he can get a job in the UK , knowledge of english etc. Once he/she gets sufficient points his/her application is then considered for HSMP Visa. the visa initially is for 1 year and on successfull completion of 1 year in job would get another 4 years stamped on the passport.
This does reduce the immigration and also the quality of people immigrating to Britian. This currently stands less than 10% of total immigration to britain.
To reduce the immigration on the whole Britain needs to re-visit the conditions with the other EU nations (specially the ones who have joined recently) as this accunts to about 50-70% of total immigration.
Also checks at borders for any illegal immigrants would also help.!!
Yes, but unlike the one the government pretends it is going to introduce (at great cost and inoperable) it needs to include EU citizens to be effective and to do that we need to leave the EU.
*grins* Yeah.. the British can afford to be more fussy than the Australians since they have so many people there already. Australia already can already have a pick of highly skilled migrants (they have lists in Australia of which can be considered as more valuable than others) and if Britian wants to keep up they'll start doing the same.
Australians also do other little things like don't let immigrants have free housing rights, free health care unless they're a citizen (and sometimes they have to wait a certain amount of years before they can go on government payouts although there are ways around the system like there are in everything). Maybe the Brits can follow that as well. ^_^
yes it should, but know our country, they will probably give you points for being foreign, black, radical Muslim, disabled, father of at least 25 off springs unemployable and penny less. So no doubt things will only get worse, rather than better.
Absolutely, only let in people who are beneficial to a country (and not their families) with jobs such as nurse, doctor, teacher, etc, etc, and offer no benefits at all.
A sound principle but can you slip it passed our masters in Brussels.
