I am a u.s greencard holder Is it true that i can stay outside u.s for just 6 months? Please give a answer. This is very important for me.

Answer:
You can stay outside the United States for up to 1 year. It's possible to extend it to two years if you file a request with ICE BEFORE you depart the United States. You'll need a compelling reason for your absence from the United States to get the extension. If you screw around you could lose your resident status.
You are allowed to stay out for six months. Now if you are gone for a year or more, you need to notify immigration office. What I recommend you do is before you leave on your trip is to go to your local immigration office and gain permission of leave and that way you will not have problems getting back in the event that you are gone for a year or more.
