But while we aren't producing sufficient numbers of scientist and engineers to maintain American Competitiveness, US research companies (which employ citizens too, btw) are becoming fed up and moving to Canada because of arbitrary visa limits for the educated and skilled. For example this year the yearly number of H-1B visas--even the 20,000 extra set aside for those with advanced education--were gone within days. These visas are used a lot to bring in scientists and researchers by employers working on the cutting edge of technology, pharmacy, medicine, defense. And employers simply can't wait another 18 months for the talent they need.
We could be welcoming people whose education and training cost the US nothing but offer to maintain US competitiveness. Instead, we shut them down. US economy and competitiveness suffers, employers close their doors, US citizens lose their jobs, and Canada opens its arms to yet another pool of talent.
No. In upscale neighborhoods in California, you only see Americans doing the gardening work. Americans do a better job than illegal aliens.

THey are taking jobs in the mid range of medicine. There is a year long sanction against the Philipines because we caught them cheating on the board exam to let Philipino nurses in the United States. Some government official help with the mass cheating. In the Philipines it's frequent to see people who bought their college degrees and then buy the answers from the board exam. It scares me that we are so dependent on Philipino medical employees . I do know most who do work here are decent, but I see too many that shouldn't even be working in a hospital. I also see so many who failed the board exam but is allowed to stay and work lower level jobs. As for why no Americans works in medicine, well because of the low pay. If they give reasonable wages their would be more interest for Americans to study these fields . I heard similar things about Indian engineers. Lot of the engineering colleges are just diploma mills. Companies use legal immigrants so they dont have to pay fair wages. THey do know that foreigners are less reliable than AMericans, because of the questionable schooling. What I notice is that thy freeze wages and then say no one wants to work in our industry and ask to hire from with out.
The last figure that I have heard is that unemployment is down to 4%. if we pack up all the illegals and ship them off, who is going to fill their positions if the unemployment is down to 4% and probably half of that enjoys being unemployed. I know that you know some of these people.
Did you mean it when you said "Legal". The issues facing America today has nothing to do with doctors and engineers being legal immigrants. Everyone in the U.S. has an opportunity for a higher education, most just choose to use mind altering drugs instead. Study or party that is the question? Legals have payed their dues, illegals are just here to send our money back to Mexico and have become experts in working our system. Our social services are running out of funds and our life long citizens can't get help when they need it. I know people that have been turned down for help. Illegals know they can live here for free and they know the government will never run them back home. The government insists on being politically correct because they wouldn't want to offend anyone and lose a vote. I just pray the powers to be can keep it all under control before the life as we know it doesn't exist anymore. All great powers fall over time. Anarchy takes over and civil war is sure to follow.
