What do you think about the "Fence" issue?

I'm looking for solutions. I definatly want to see the flow of illegal immagrants stopped, and was initially behind a fence to help with this. During my research I found 2 very real problems with it. 1) Thousands of farmers depend on irrigation for crops along the Rio Grande (This river shifts and changes constantly and a fence would make their efforts immpossible) 2) The animal life in the area also depends on the Rio Grande (remember this is a very arid area).
Any ideas... I'd still support a fence if we can come up with something.

Answer:
The fence is a political ruse. The politicians that contrived it have always known that it would never work, and also that it was not even necessary.

All the government had to do was stop giving so many incentives for illegal immigrants to come here. They didn't come here by the millions to work for three dollars an hour, they came for the welfare programs available to them. The food, hospital, housing, and educational welfare benefits are being doled out by our local, state, and federal agencies.

The government can also slap heavy fines on employers that hire illegals, they don't.

Illegal immigrants are paid three times the value in government handouts that they provide in goods and services to our society. We have rolled out the red carpet and wonder why they come.

These policies were no mistake. They were intentional, and our politicians are traders. We are being balkanized as a society, and financially bankrupted to make way for the North American Union and the Amero currency.
what if someone bombs the fence stupid idea for someone like you.
KEEP TRYING WE WILL ALWAYS FIND A WAY IN SOMEHOW!!!

IF YOU THINK I'M ILLEGAL BECAUSE I'M MEXICAN LEARN THE TRUE HISTORY BECAUSE I'M IN MY HOMELAND!!!

PROUD TO BE MEXICAN!!
They are more afraid that if the fence goes up it will cut off their water supply from the Rio Grand. A fence in that area doesn't mean that it can't be some sort of dam that alleviates those issues, or concerns for the water to still be accessed.
Actually, I don't think the fence is a good idea at all, we just need to get tougher on illegals that come here and we needto start enforcing the laws that already exist and fine people heavily that hire illegal immigrants.
We've seen people climb fences before. I don't see how a fence would keep people out. I think it would be yet another multimillion dollar fiasco.

What we need to do is remove the demand for cheap labor. Crack down on the companies that employ them. Send the message that if you can't afford American labor, you can't afford to do business here.

And we, as consumers, can refuse to patronize business who continue to employ undocumented workers.
There is always a way to irrigate the crops, and as GLITTERBABEPRINCESS says, they will always find a way in, and expect everything for free, they break the law and expect to be rewarded for it. I say we shoot on site if they cross illegaly. Fences were made to be overcome, but a bullet is final. When Germany was devided they had no problems with border crossers, because they had dogs, and shot to kill, on site. To hell with the illegals !!
first off.. glitter what not .. no one cares that you're Mexican.. and most Mexicans here are illegal..so get over yourself..

anyway I think the fence should be built.. and I have nothing against Mexicans I just don't think its right that our taxes are helping them with their food stamps, welfare, and their kids being educated.. its bull.. the fence needs to be built..or they should sign up for the army as they come across the lines. That goes for any illegal immigrant by the way not just Mexicans.
"They" will just have to buy sharper wire-cutters from the U.S. (on eBay) to get through 3 fences instead of one.
there will never be a fence!

I'm against the fence. First of all we are not being invaded as the extremists suggest. Immigrants are coming here illegally because current immigration laws make it difficult or nearly impossible for many to come over here legally. A fence will not stop illegal immigration any more than a car alarm will prevent someone from taking your car. In addition, building and maintaing this fence will cost billions more than illegal immigration costs. Its like driving across town to fill up because the gas there is a nickel cheaper.

Ive asked questions challenging the the legitimacy of the fence only to have my patriotism questioned. But, I also want the issue solved. Just in a way, that doesn't give the finger to Mexico. If there were no unfilled jobs, there would be no immigration at all legal or illegal. So it is obvious that many unemployed Americans don't want the jobs they are coming here to fill. Most would never leave if they could find suitable work in Mexico. So a solution would be to form a better business relationship with Mexico. They have oil. We need oil. Currently we are purchasing most of it from the middle east. Create an American/Mexican pipeline. The Mexican economy would soar and tens of thousands of new jobs in Mexico would allow people to feed their families without risking death crossing hundreds of miles of open desert to get here.
When I first came on MyTend.com , Canadians were suggesting a fence to keep the Americans out. ( If Texas and California bordered Canada, the Canadians wouldn't feel that way !)
the fence is a touchy issue for most people so i will try to be nice. i think for the good of the animals that a fence is just not a feasible solution. the farmers on the other hand could find workers else where if they were forced to. please remember that we have thousands of people that are unemployed though out the year, more so in the summer than winter. the water for the fields is something that could be solved by a water De-desalination plant. this plant would create jobs and would get the water to the farmers fields. now for the immigrants my solution is a very touchy one. the one that i propose would be to set up guard towers at 200 yard intervals and if you get caught you are shot. the shooting would help scare people away from tiring. know for those people that make it with out getting caught could live in America as long as they where not caught or where making an express attempted to assimilate into American culture and it's language. this would also mean that they were tiring to become citizens. this would mean that if they came forward to get info to pass the citizen test that they would granted amnesty for a period of at most a year in witch they were expected to have past the test and speak fluent English.
for this enter plan to work it would mean that law enforcement would have to step up and be commented to having an active role in solving this growing problem.
please remember that this is just my opinion and not the only solution. thank you
The fence is a silly idea.
It simply will not work.
Did you see the immigration episode of Penn and Teller's Bullshit?
They hired a group of guys to build an exact replica of the fence, then they had them split up into teams of two. Two guys went over the fence, two went under, and two went through it.
Amazingly, it only took them a few minutes to go THROUGH it! All it took was some tin snips.

I'd rather see the government spend their money on something useful.
we need more people to monitor the border.. a fence would help, but people are also needed and must be allowed to do their job
