Whi is LEGAL immigration so hard?
Answer:
Because the country that you may be trying to immigrate from wants to make sure that you have no medical conditions that could harm the citizens of that country.
Because of terrorists in the world, checking people out is no longer just something that maybe should be done - but needs to be done for each and every individual.
Because it has to be made sure that the people that want to immigrate here are not going to be a burden on the citizens and can support themselves.
Because the country that you may be trying to immigrate to doesn't need the type of skills that you have.
With available jobs not keeping up with the current population within the United States - the thought of just opening up immigration and making it easier is a foolhardy thought held only by those that are not thinking clearly and for the best interests of the citizens of the United States as a whole.
There are more than likely other reasons. These are the first I thought of off the top of my head.
It doesn't if you are from mexico.
Goverment wants to make sure everyone goes throught proper process.
Only Illegals work at the INS...they can't understand the forms.
there is a long process of verifying all the papers that one files and there are so many people applying . it's better to go through all these coz at the end you have nothing to worry about unlike if you choose to be an illegal immigrant .
It's not very hard at all. It takes a lot of time is what the problem is. Quite frankly it is a good thing that the process is so long.
because the amount of people trying to get into the USA every year is far far far more than we can handle.
The law has quotas and limits on how many can come in any year, (for most people) because our schools etc can only take so many. The more illegally here impacting those services, the stricter those laws tend to become. It isn't just paperwork, it is the length of the line.
It isn't hard, people do it every day, just like if you wanted to move to Mexico...oh wait, they don't want American's to become Mexican citizens...
I mean if it was easy then we would have more of these boneheads that fill our prison systems in the streets. It is a priviledge to be an american citizen. It should be earned not given to anyone.
i don't know why it takes so long. the reason the price has gone up is because they need more man power out on the field to pick up illegals when they get reports in. you should ask them why so long.

My mother AND father both waited the wait and didn't complain ONCE. People are just lazy.
My experience as an immigrant (this is why we often don't wait... so it indirectly answers your question):
1) wait can sometimes take months or years if you do it legally
2) When attempting to do it legally, INS staff are/can be incredibly cruel and insensitive
3) there are a limited number of crossing locals for doing it legally.... for us, the nearest was 3-4 days horseback ride
4) much easier to simply cross where you can
5) the costs can be prohibitively high... an attorney from your country can take all of your savings and property just to walk you thru the process
6) Legal crossing points are often hundreds of miles from the work-site you are going to, crossing at the work-site area just across the borders is much easier. Also, the longer you're en-route... the higher your chances of getting robbed, raped, killed, injured, etc.; ergo, you take the shortest route!
Finally, the trip is extremely perilous... many die along the way from anything from a snake-bite to dehydration, to being murdered by "coyoteros" (people who help you across illegally for huge sums of money) for not paying up as promised. We functioned as "coyoteros" for many years; however, our fee was only $10-20 per person since our goal was not to make money, but to bring people we knew over.
There are numerous other reasons, but these were ours when we crossed illegally, yes, 35 years ago. today, I'm legal, have earned a Ph.D in clinical psych, and contribute to society.

It costs money, takes a long time, and if you come from certain countries the amount of people who can come is limited.
Also if you were a very poor farmer from a poor country and the government does nothing about the illegals here, why would you waste time doing it legally?
our government doesn't stop the illegals, so people don't bother to do it correctly.
They only allow 144,000 per year and they might as well get the ones with careers- they also want to make sure they weren't involved in any illegal activity
It really can not be all that hard, or not as hard as they are making it sound. What they ( the illegal aliens ) do not like is, spending money, doing paperwork, and waiting.
