If there's a statute of limitations on theft, why isn't there one for entering the country illegally?
How is this any different from someone who crossed the border illegally and continues to live here illegally? Shouldn't both situations be treated the same? If not, why not?

I'd say, because the crime is compounded by staying illegally.
Immigration law is funny, though. Entering the country illegally is only a misdemeanor, even though it should be a much more serious crime, and, even though the punishment is light, it's little-enforced.
I wouldn't mind establishing a statute of limitations - if the law were rigorously enforced. Of course, it'd have to be enforcement first: /After/ immigration law has been rigorously enforced for 15 years, a 15-year statute of limitation might be acceptable, for instance.
EVERY crime has different ways of handling it. NONE are treated exactly the same in all cases. Sometimes even the same crime is treated differently depending on the circumstances.
Just because a person is a thief that does not indicate that he is a spy.
An illegal immigrant is a foreigner and must/should be considered to be an enemy spy or combatant.
There is, and should be no statute of limitation on illegal immigration.
The statute of limitations is a right enjoyed by US citizens.
Aliens do not enjoy the same rights as citizens. Maybe it's not fair, but we're not talking about fairness, we're talking about the law.

What about native americans? your ancestors did the same thing to those poor people who could not defend themselves from the massive newcomers. They lost their "jobs" and rightfully owned land. your right. 2 weeks ago there was a neighbor who came into my yard to steal 6 metal bars the go to the flooring of my shed. he picked up the bars. i went into my own yard and had a ball bat, and asked him what he was doing? he said nothing, laid the metal bars down. walked off MY property and called some one on his cell phone. that damn biotch called the police and said i threatened him. i didn't go to jail, he was told to stay off my property. and for me not to go to his. i told the cope i don't go to his place because they are drug heads and keep head lice. he should have been arrested. all the police did was stick up for him. it's funny how the law can defend the one that's in the wrong and they know it.
When you take personal property from it's rightful owner you do harm to only that person. Also, the law assumes that you are already a citizen. when you enter this country illiegally, you put a strain on social services that are budgeted only for a certian percentage of Americans. Take public schooling for instance, the prescence of ESL students may hinder the learning pace of rightful American Citizens. This puts an added finanacial burden on an already struggling education system. It would be great if there was a statute, but think of what that may do to the rest of the American society.

Let me begin by saying I am not against immigration.
Statute of limitations does not work on immigration, as there is no way of knowing exactly when they came in. Someone who just crossed the border today could say they have been here for 12 years and who is to know the difference.
Theft on the other hand has a definite date. I can say "My rings disappeared on Sept 25, after the accused left my home", or whatever the case maybe.
Statute of Limitations is also part of our laws designed for the citizens our country. If you are here illegally, you have said from the beginning that our laws do not apply, and therefore should have no Statute of Limitations apply.
Response... These people have their own liberties given to them by their country of citizenship. I am not allowed the liberty of setting up house in Mexico, without going thru the proper channels, why are they allowed the liberty of doing it in the US. As far as the Census goes, many of them do not report to the bureau. There is no true way of counting the number of illegals in the US, coming across both the Mexico and the Canadian borders. Many Loose themselves in the shuffle of everyday life.
I have no problem with the citizens of the United States who have immigrated here legally, just the ones who break the law from the start. If they wish to change our laws, let them earn the right by becoming citizens and casting their legal vote and abiding by OUR laws from the beginning.
I agree with you on this one. People make illegals out to be murderers simply for crossing a border into a country that isn't their's yet it is only a misdemeanor offense. We certainly don't severely punish those that commit misdemeanors and most of the time we let them go with a warning or hefty fines...and I agree, there should be a statue of limitations. The law should be fair all across the board but unfortunately that isn't so. There is just too much unfairness in this world.
