Whether the illegals are violent or not, they are breaking a law. They should expect consequences, just as anyone else should expect consequences for whatever laws they break.
Unfortunately, sometimes the consequences cause families to be separated. But when a person breaks the law, they hold the responsibility of bringing the situation on themself.
Families NEVER should be "torn apart" in this immigration debate ... the answer is thus:
The entire family moves back to whatever country the ILLEGAL family member is being deported to. Then the whole family can be together forever, and EVERYBODY, including ME, is happy.
We are not just talking about violence here. It is against the law to enter this country illegally. So no everyone who is guilty of a misdemeanor should not be treated the same as an illegal alien.
I agree with sassy take the whole family with you. Then there is no need to whine about broken families. Deport illegals (the whole family).
If you choose to break the law you have to suffer the consequences when caught

If I speed I know what the consequence is, if I take prescription drugs incorrectly I know what the consequence is.. people that come here illegally know what the consequence is if they get caught.. deportation. so if they choose to break the law and come here illegally then if they get caught.. they know what the consequence is, and so they have only themselves to blame for their family being torn apart

They decided to enter illegally. That is a misdemeanor, but it should be a felony as it violates our national sovereignty.
Many acquire false documents. That is a felony while not violent. Many use those false document to obtain welfare benefits. That is also a felony while not being violent.
BTW, illegal entry into Mexico as well many other nations is a felony.
Look, my family spent 5 years going though the system properly. They had to be split up for a while.
One of my really good friends, came here illegally and even got married to an American woman, but he wanted to become a legal citizen so that he could do things right when he has a family, so he returned to Indonesia, and is working on getting his citizenship through the proper channels. It sucks and he misses his wife, but he knows he has to do what he has to do.
If they want it, they can do it too, just like everyone else, it is not fair that some people get a pass or don't have to wait in line, because they don't wanna.

The point you seem to miss is that, an illegal entered America ILLEGALLY they should be deported. Violent and non-violent, they are all illegals. There is no difference between them.
Let the family be together in whatever country they came from.
Why is the only time illegals raise the issue of tearing families a part is when they are in the USA, when they leave their families behind in their home country that is not a problem
Vandalism, shoplifting, trespassing, prostitution, and drunk driving are all examples of a misdemeanor. If I commit one of these crimes, I can be imprisoned for up to a year, and in that time I would be torn from my family. So, do you think they should stop punishing those types of crimes, simply so people are not separated from their family? Everyone who commits a crime (violent or not) takes a risk at being separated from their loved ones. That's besides the point, though. I think their family should stay together...in their country of origin.

Comparing breaking out immigration laws to speeding is very insulting! Illegal alien criminals are guilty of either a misdomeanor or a felony. This can be punishable by JAIL or DEPORTATION! Speeding is usually an "infraction" and punishable by a fine.

If the families are "torn apart" that's the fault of the illegal alien (the parents). They willingly and knowingly broke the immigration law by coming here, and/or remaining here, knowing they face deportation if caught.
No the families don't have to be "torn apart"...if they are, it's the parent's choice. It was their choice to be illegal aliens, and it's their choice to not take their children with them if deported. Don't try to change OUR laws to suit illegal aliens.
Nobody twisted their arm to come here, nobody twisted their arm to stay, and they are not welcome or wanted here anyway.
