Why Does Immigration Divide America?
Answer:
NO one in America has a problem with immigration. We have a problem with ILLEGAL immigration.
It's become a HUGE strain on our nation. ILLEGALS cost the US tens of billions of dollars each year in education, healthcare and incarceration expenses.
"Cheap Labor" is a myth by the pro-illegals. By the time you add the true costs of all ILLEGALS to their wages any cost savings is negated.
I believe in California, more illegals collect welfare benefits than pick fruit and vegtables.
There is no way someone who came to this country illegally should receive ANY benefits!!!
to keep the lower class fighting amongst itself and perpetuate the current financial system.
I don't think this is a divisional issue among Americans as much as you think. There are some who think it's ok to let all the illegals in. But, I think the majority of the people can agree that illegal immigration is getting out of control.
I don't think it does. The real problem is ILLEGAL immigration. Illegal immigrants do not belong in this country. They need to be sent back to their homeland.
LEGAL immigrants are welcome in the USA.
Is the people who do not immigration itself. Once the people understands that we're all human, the same, that we all want a better life and progress there wont be division.
ILLEGAL immigration divides the US. Why? Because it has become polticized, made a racial (vs. legal issue) and nobody is doing anything meaningful about it.
The minute somebody says something about, you're labeled as a racist. People are pi**ed about the effects and influx of illegals, the crime they bring, the drain on public resources, the language barriers, etc. Those who are pro-illegals spin and justify as if we should all accept those who come here illegally.
btw- I'm an immigrant, a US citizen who has been here for decades. I came here legally with my parents and so have many family members and people I know.
Because breaking the law is OK in the eyes of some. If you are am illegal imigrant, it stands to reason that you are a law breaker. So what will keep you from repeating this later. There are ways to get here leagally, I know its hard, but thats how we weed out the losers..
Its not so much immigration that divides. Its people's stance on illegal immigration that divides. Some (the stupid) don't see it as a problem. While those of us with brains and intelligence think it is a major problem. See I have no problem with immigration through legal channels as was done by the ancestors of nearly everyone in this country. I do on the other hand have a problem with border jumpers and those who have a total disregard for the laws of this country. That is the issue, not immigration in general, but illegal immigration to be exact. Thanks and have a nice day.
I think that when anyone new moves into your neighborhood it is uncomfortable. And when people move into your neighborhood in large numbers, and suddenly you can't recognize your own hometown, that can be very unsettling.
I don't think it is really about racism, but more about a natural reaction people have to newcomers. There were grumblings about Irish coming to US, there were grumblings about Italians coming to US, etc. It isn't a matter of race.
no it doesnt! wat u talking about?
I think it comes from just plain old PRIDE. Everyone wants to be on top. When diverse people come to the U.S. this upsets the apple cart.
PRIDE = un unduly high opinion of oneself, conceit, haughty
Get rid of the trait and we may live together peacefully
Immigration doesn't divide America....
ILLEGAL immigration divides us.
It divides us because for every one person who believes that illegals take our jobs from us, don't pay taxes, and use our social services and don't abide by standard laws(getting drivers licenses, getting auto insurance/ health insurance), there is another individual who loves illegal immigration because they know the illegals pay into our social security without the hope of ever receiving it at age 65, take on jobs that americans won't touch with a 10 foot pole, and work harder for less money.
Big business is for illegal immigration, and easily see the benefit of paying fines, because they are profiting so much more by the illegals working for them.
I personally wish all illegals would be sent back....I don't care about consequences, but I also see that they aren't really draining the economy. If it wasn't for them, social security would be kaput 5 years ago, and the government knows this.
It is not easy to argue for either side. They both have valid points.
It sure does// I am for legal immigration. You go to the embassy, fill out the papers & wait for the letter or call. I am against those who sneak in under the cover of darkness, steal services, & goverment money. It is not fair those who followed the law.Just because their lives in their country is rotten is NO excuse. You either come here the right way Or stay away.
I don't understand the divide at all. I am an imigrant, but I did it legally. What seems to be the problem with others being exected to follow the rules?
If you buy a nice home with your hard earned money and make the notes, taxes and insurance payments; would you be offended and feel it wasn't fair if I stold the house next door and moved in for free, and the US gov let me keep it.
Would you be wrong for feeling I cheated the system, or would I be wrong for working the system?
Hope this helps a little for your inquiry.

The fact that some people come here but refuse to give up their ways and not become American divides America.
One language please.
It is not as divided as one would think. The Vocal minority who want to welcome, with open arms, the illegal immigrants into the country are simply so much louder than the Silent majority so it seems that we are more evenly divided. the problem with America today is that the Majority of us are allowing the minority to dictate what is acceptable. We are doing this by being silent and not putting our foot down! One liberal person cries and says that they are offended because of the word God in the pledge of allegiance and we keep our mouths shut and allow them to take it away. A few people think that we should open our borders to allow illegal immigrants in so they can live of our hard earned tax dollars and bring us down to the level of poverty that they are trying to get away from and we stay silent. Now the illegal immigrants are mad because we don't have everything available to them in spanish and so they protest. What do we do? Instead of rounding them up and sending them back, we start teaching school in two different languages and in some places we make it mandatory to learn spanish.
I think we should also make french mandatory because France wants to send some peple over here and Arabic too because we are going to start having more refugees coming over. What about the various Asian tongues too because we have a lot of Asian immigrants here as well. I think I am going to sue somebody because they are teaching my children about Wicca in school and making our children celebrate Mexican independance day. Why are we the only country that celebrates another country's independance day? Ok I will get off my soapbox now.
1. The confusion between immigration generally and illegal immigration.
2. Most people have NO IDEA how arbitrary the immigration officers are in their decisions and how they brazenly ignore the law in making those decisions.
3. Some people are insecure about their skill sets and want to blame their employment troubles on "cheap foreign labor"
4. Some employers show no loyalty or patriotism and offshore jobs (and technology) indiscriminately.
5. Many people are willing to take the risk of being caught and deported in order to be here and work and make a way for their family whether the law permits it or not.
6. Some people exploit the folks in #5 and hire them at slave wages.
7. Other people have compassion on the folks in #5 and hire them at fair wages.
8. There is a philosophical difference about America that attracts people (all men are created equal, we are a nation of laws not of men, we are a melting pot that welcomes everyone who is willing to be a productive part of our society, and the like).
9. There is a misunderstanding of the philosophy about the land of opportunity that twists it into entitlements instead of quid pro quo "social contracts".
10. People from corrupt societies, kleptocracies, and totalitarian regimes are not used to the social responsibilities that go with being part of an open and democratic society, so they "game" the system to take advantage at every point instead of "playing by the rules".
11. Our own society is crumbling from within due to a mindset of entitlement, "me first", "make me", "prove it", and an increasing lean toward collectivism and the abolition of personal responsibility. We dare not blame ourselves, so we blame the "outsiders".
12. Immigration creates opportunities for exploiting voters via the politics of envy.
13. We have lost the notion that immigrants ought to assimilate and become "Americans".
14. Political correctness and multicuturalism say "I'm just as good as you are". It is never the secure person who says that, only the insecure. The genius never says to the dolt "I'm as smart as you are" nor the beautiful to the ugly "I'm just as good-looking as you are". Anyone insisting they are as "good as" or "smart as" or "pretty as" or "talented as" someone else usually is feeling for some reason that maybe they really aren't. But political correctness ignores this phenomenon and instead tries to make the competent feel guilty. This feeds into the resistance to require assimilation.
15. Americans aren't better than people from other countries, but America is a better country than most other countries, all things considered. That's why people want to come here and why it takes so long to be able to come & stay legally.
16. America is a great country, but other countries have great things about them, too, and Americans often overlook or dismiss them. We can respect other countries (and the people from those countries) and learn from them without becoming just like them or controlled by them. It really is possible!
17. Some immigrants have been reluctant to learn English. Others not only don't learn English, they insist on being dealt with (educated, governed, etc) only in their native language. This is a destructive and divisive attitude. The better position is to do everything possible to learn written and spoken English to the point of fluency.
18. Some Americans become apoplectic if they hear any language but English being spoken within our borders. This is a destructive and divisive attitude. The better position is to use the opportunity to learn about people and things dissimilar to oneself and one's own prior experiences.
19. For three and a half centuries, we had two oceans and a sparse native population, ensuring that no one encroached on us as we filled the country. In the past 50 years, we have had to learn to deal with more people, more diverse people, more countries, more languages, and more divergencies of opinion. We have not adjusted well to the change in global cultural conditions. Most other countries are smaller and learned how to "play in the sandbox nicely with others" earlier on.
20. We need to humble up and recognize that while America has many positive attributes, it has some negative ones as well. We need to be willing to learn from our international neighbors, both across the pond and across the street. Our neighbors need to humble up and recognize that while America has many negative attributes, it has some positive ones as well. They need to be willing to learn from us, too.
I myself have pondered this for a long time, it makes no sense because america was founded on the values of people from all around the world, we are a melting pot of culture, but some people feel that they can claim the land all to themselves and discriminate against people whom come to have a better life in this land that is often mistaken for a place with "streets paved of gold and endless oppurtunity" but the gold was striped from america long ago,now people travel to america to find that it is infested with greed, hate, poverty, and lies. our narrow-minded citizens are smashing the morals in which this great nation was built upon. i can think of no good reason why immigration is dividing america becuase there is no good reason.
I think it divides America because people have different opinions on it and different methods on how it should be handled.Personally I think depending on where you do come from it depends on wether you are in favor or against illegal immigration. For example if you are a natural born citizen or obtained paperwork to enter the U.S then you more than like tend to be against illegal immigration. On the other hand if your parents entered illegally or you yourself are illegal then you tend to be more in favor of being in favor of illegal immigration. Also another major factor would be in what kind of social class you are.If you tend to be more lower middle class that barely makes it from paycheck to paycheck then you tend to be more against illegal immigration,if your upper class or higher middle class then you pretty much don't care or are profiting from illegal immigration.Unfortunately because of all those differences its tough to come up with a solution that everyone will agree completely on.
Now, I'm only 14, but I have seen numerous reasons why it divides America.
First of all its not immigration that divides us, but "illegal immigration" Some support the idea that illegal immigration is disrespectful to the law and should be punished, not to mention the rise in crime and job loss it has brought. Some think we should welcolme everyone to our borders and think its racist to disagree with them.
Because there are large groups that are pro and anti who refuse to see that this is a HUMAN issue.
Because there are people that think that anybody and everybody can come here and do what they want, and then there are people that play by the rules and expect everybody else to as well....
Illegal aliens are the problem... not legal immigrates.. If you live in California,Texas or in Arizona like I do .You feel the division more strongly. It gets to be a "them" against"us" attitude. While other states where the illegal alien is less visible,I don't think you feel the problem as much. The American people are overwhelmingly against illegal aliens. They are less decided and divided on the question of amnesty.. some feel they should be granted amnesty under certain guidelines, others say no way do they deserve amnesty. So this has divided our way of thinking, not our country. If anything would threaten this nation as a whole then most all Americans will be ailed with their own nation.
The people screaming the loudest are not illegal, they are legal people that have a vested interested in the fate of the illegal alien. And they are creating the problem and the back lash towards illegal aliens not the alien him/her self.
Its a legal issue ,the human ,humane factor doesn't have anything to do with it . Its a crime.
Because we're a nation that's already divided by Democrats and Republicans, who have such different views on major issues. This nation is made up of many strong willed people and we use our right of free speech. Immigration is just one issue...we're also divided on the issues of gun control, birth control, abortions...the list can go on and on.
