low-skilled immigrant households consume 3 dollars in government
services for every 1 dollar they pay in taxes (2004 -- received
$30,160 in govt benefits and paid just $10,573 in taxes).
Add together the annual costs, the retirement costs and the unknown
costs of implementing the amnesty program and rest assured the total
cost to U.S. taxpayers will be multiple trillions of dollars!
Senators like Teddy Kennedy love to spend our money. In fact, they
don't even bother to stop and estimate how much of our taxes they
are spending!

Plus, majority of illegals are in our jails and prisons. Hows that for a wake up call? Do these leaders really want to protect us, or are they in it for the money or to look good?
Our troops are in Iraq fighting for our country and our freedom, they are fighting against the enemy who want to destroy us all. But, this doesn't make any sense to keep all these illegals here when majority of them end up in our jails and prisons all because they committed a crime. Who is the government really protecting here? Are they doing this because they want to earn votes from 'illegals'?

I think we need a more effective program for plan for thwarting illegal immigrants (from everywhere...not just south of the border). Also, given their rabidly conservative bent, I'd take stats from the Heritage Foudation with the biggest grain of salt I could find!

Dollars aside, our schools are SO overcrowded and our teachers SO stretched in areas where illegals concentrate, that throwing dollars at it at this point won't solve it. California decided that as a start we need to spend 40% more on schools, but they have to reorganize the entire system to make the money effective, and that will take years. It seems ok to politicians for our children's education to be 'lost' before they 'someday' fix the system for some other generation, but it isn't ok as far as weparents are concerned. The idea of putting ADDITIONAL immigration on TOP of a legalization is insane.
It is hurting everyone, They put people out of jobs because they work for so little.
I'd question EVERYTHING coming out of the Heritage Foundation. They are famous for making crap up to support a conservative point of view.

Once you are in America, if you really want to be here, you wave ONE flag, and that is the AMERICAN flag. It's okay to be proud of your heritage, but if you are more proud of your country, you should go back there.

Well, are you serious? Irregardless of the cost of enforcing national borders and federal decrees of law and order, those "poor illegals" you speak of are taking advantage of the Sovereignty of each American citizen. Their costing of billions a year in health care and education. Their flooding the construction market, their providing extremely low cost labor, labor that is sub-standard and poorly performed is a disgrace to the companies that pay to keep legal American trades and craftsmen employed.
Companies that hire illegals should be shut down. Heavily fined with the hiring execs also fined and punished. The children born here in America by illegals must retain the citizenship and nationality of their illegal parents, and not by default become American citizens by default of birthing rites.
There must be a resolution to the illegal question. It must be swift, severe and absolute.irregardless of bleeding hearts and those that prosper off of the violation of sovereign laws and citizens rights.

If you look the reality our country dos not have space for million's of illegal people,even though they don't hurt anyone physically they work for so little money so the wages everywhere are low.

@InDeepThought: This is "Politics and Government". Right now, Immigration (the subsection) is more involved with politics than anything else. Making a statement to elicit an opinion is as valid as a question. I know that confuses you, since you're probably used to that weird upside down question mark at the front of questions.
Illegal immigration hurts every citizen. Many of the other answers already sum up my opinion.
Here is a short list of my concerns:
1. An unsecured border will be the entry point for terrorism. Islam is a fast growing religion among the Mayans. Mexico has a large and growing population of Arabs. It would be very easy for a terrorist to fly into Mexico and just walk across the border.
2. The availability of low wage Mexican labor will keep the average American blue-collar worker at unfairly low wages for their basic skills. This is very apparent in the building trades.
3. The welfare system in every state is strained by the burden of illegals. We need to care for citizens first. All communities are seeing huge tax increases to pay for these illegals.
4. The entry of exotic contagious diseases. My doctor made me aware of this problem. There are deadly strains of tuberculosis, hantavirus, hepatitis, necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating disease), and many other tropical diseases that we have little or no treatment for.
5. Higher crime rates. There is nothing stopping the criminals from other countries entering over the Mexican border.
6. 'Sanctuary Cities' being declared across the US. Near me is Harrisburg, PA. It's been declared a 'sanctuary city'. That means the police may not ask if you are a US citizen! This is causing a huge increase in the illegal population.
7. The Mexican government does not want a secure border. Illegals send tens of billions of dollars back to Mexico. Without this money the Mexican economy would be severely crippled.
