Why do politicians think they must reform illegal immigration.?

My opinions:

1. The government is not willing to totally seal the border
2. Migrant labor is needed for certain jobs
3. The government is not willing to crack down on employers who do hire illegal immigrants.
4. No one seriously believes 12million people are about to be deported.

My contention is that the current system works fine. We stop some people from crossing the border. Deport a few others. Others leave when they have amassed enough money, so we have a rotating stock of working age laborors, who have no claim to benefits like social security later in their autumn years. What's more most of these people pay social security taxes without receiving benefits. By giving people a path to citzenship they are more likely to stay and encourage more illegal immigration, and they will be entitled to these benefits, making social security even less solvent. The current system of looking the other way seems to work for everyone.

Answer:
Truthfully, they know that we don't want any "comprehensive immigration reform" or "amnesty that isn't amnesty," etc. They know that! But, they are trying to fool us into believing that THIS TIME they are going to REALLY DO SOMETHING about the illegal immigration problem. THIS TIME, they really mean it, if we will just let them slide this one by us. Ha! If we will just let them legalize the 12 or more million illegals who are currently in the country, they expect us to believe that THIS TIME they will seal the borders and NO MORE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS will enter the USA! They really do underestimate the citizens of the USA. We know they are full of shite and they are trying to slide one more over on us and we aren't buying it this time. Why would we believe them this time, when they can't even enforce the perfectly good immigration laws we already have on the books?! Nope - deport them all and close the borders, then we can talk turkey, right?
There is no need to reform anything. They should just enforce the laws we already have. That's where the problem is.
Instead of pork the Dems get, use the pork money to set up Swat to go town by town and deport and it will work. Sayanara!
All Americans against illegal immigrants should contact their senators and congressmen/women and urge them not to grant any type of amnesty to the illegal immigrants. There is more than enough money the government is wasting everywhere that they can finance the deportation of all illegal immigrants.
President Eisenhower removed 95% of all illegal aliens in 1954. Most left voluntarily for fear of the harsh punishment they would receive if caught.

American employers need serious mandatory jail time for hiring illegals. If illegal aliens had no jobs, they would leave voluntarily.

This would suck for the slumlords and businesses making money off of slave labor. Boo Hoo.

This would be great for Americans looking to finally increase real wages and for the unemployed - especially African American males aged 18 - 29 who have unemployment rates 4 - 5 times the rate of other Americans.

Amnesty for illegal aliens is racist, criminal and goes against everything America stands for (or sadly used to stand for).
The people think that immigration laws need to be enforced.
No path to citizenship - It should be deportation or imprisonment and then deportation, plus getting that wall built and adequate personnel assigned to it.
We don't need migrant labor moron. We have plenty of prisoners who could easily fill the migrant roll and voila no more need.
Illegal immigration is a very compilcated issue. I think that granting amnesty to the 12 million illegals would provide the governemt with a better source of income which could be used for better health care and other nationally realted issues. However, it could also encourage a great influx of illegals across the border. I think Congress will most likely be battling out this issue for quite some time. It's a difficult decision to make!
Call me racist for backing the USA... I'm Hispanic and I don't care for the illegals coming to this country and ruining it for all of us!

How about you learn English, adapt, and then stand in line and become legal the right way.

This is not a Immigrants reform bill, this is a Sell the USA to the Illegals of Mexico bill. Someone needs to stand up and really point out what this bill is for! I don't see Koren, Japaneses, German, or French or what ever else... Saying it's not right, or holding protests in their language. I only see Mexicans! Speaking Spanish and not wanting to adapt, just expecting to get everything handed to them... Paying Taxes, yeah sure... With who's Social Security Number?
Illegals cost our government hundreds of millions in health care for one thing. If the new law makes employers stop hiring illegal aliens, maybe they will all go home if they don't have work. 12 million unemployed illegals hanging around Home Depots. What a concept.
I like all of those, but add one big word, VOTES
Your opinions 1-4 is totally your supposition...and not at all what opinion polls suggest. The "path to citizenship," in America was established over two-hundred years ago, but your 12 million new criminal friends swarming in from the south have cited a superior need and right over you and ALL other Americans and Mexican-Americans. More than half of these criminals have no intention what-so-ever of ever becoming citizens, but are here for the green backs to send back to old "May-he-co" and live like kings while you are still greeting customers at Wal-mart. Good luck with that.

My contention is that Napalming the border would solve the problem nicely.. however, that would require that the "current system of looking the other way" in order to "work for everyone."
Illegals cost this country 10 billion dollars per year for education, welfare, and health care costs.
Add into that 86 hospitals that have closed because illegals haven't paid their bills and I submit that the facts and the math are there.
You just have to open your eyes and find them.
You are correct. President Bush has failed us on this issue. He has the funding in place to build a better wall but it does not get built. I think he made some deal with Mexico or something. I have always supported Bush but if he won't act on this illegal immigration he has lost my support. The only thing we can do is to make ourselves heard. Attend rallies, make e-mails to politicians, phone calls, etc. They can't ignore us if we make enough noise.
Unlawful Entry is a CRIME. Zero tolerance for immigration-law violators! No amnesty, no "stealth-amnesty." No "change of status," marriage fraud, "exceptional leave to remain," no "Temporary Protected Status." If you break the law, depart or be deported. Illegal aliens kill more US citizens each year than the war in Iraq has killed in four years. Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland. Taxpayers are being forced to pay for the free health care, education, and other welfare programs being given to illegal aliens; Those tax dollars could be given back to U.S. taxpayers or used to keep our borders secure; They may be here illegally, but they sure know how to "work the system" to collect "free" medical care, "free" education, "free" food, Section 8 housing vouchers and other housing assistance, and hundreds of other social services. It costs citizens additional hundreds of billions of tax dollars at every level: local, state, and federal. It gobbles up billions of our charitable contributions. And much of that money ends up siphoned out of our economy and into offshore accounts. Illegal aliens, over half of whom work "under the table" with neither job nor income reported (nor taxed), are not counted as employed or unemployed. But some of those day-labor and off-the-books "job-lets" would be "real" jobs - available to American citizen job-seekers - if employment regulations were enforced. Illegal aliens can get away with tax evasion, et al., which citizens cannot. In short, we have too many workforce entrants and too few jobs created. The ratio works out to roughly 7-10 workforce entrants per job created. If all illegal aliens depart or are deported, all legal immigration halted, and all temporary employment visas abolished, we still have a problem with more US-born workforce entrants than new jobs created. Illegal immigration damages our country and our citizens every day at every level. And not even the attacks of 2/26 and 9/11 have awakened many Americans to the vast dangers illegal immigration poses to our selves, our families, our communities, our society, our values, our principles, our civilization. Zero Tolerance for Immigration-Law Violators! We must remember the lessons of 2/26, 9/11, and the costs we bear every single day. God Bless the U S A !
Looking at the 1986 laws regarding this issue, I so far can see no reason for another reform.

However I do have to agree with the poster who mentioned napalming the border as a quicker resolution to the current situation. Not only would we have to look the other way, but also take no responsibility for medical costs and treatments to those who get caught up in it. Consider it an act of warfare in protecting OUR sovereign border.

America has the best men and women soldiers around the world. I'm certain the American militia is quite capable too of protecting our border. Reading about Mexico's they have nothing that could even compare. The only ones who seem to be doing damage to the new presidential government down there are the drug-lords. Killing both his soldiers and his police, and having him cut and run to call off the hunting of drug rings, and the arrests of Mexican drug kingpins. And since Mexico is the biggest importer of illegal drugs, don't expect to have Mexicans or their government to stop it from flowing here.

So maybe napalming is the answer. That cr*p gets into the drugs, and Americas druggies take that cr*p and get sick or croak off it. The less demand there would be for it. Seems to solve some more of Americas problems. Cut down on Druggies, thefts, robbery, rapes, murders... There would be more money to devert to other social issues, The poor, education, medicare, social security...

Sorry if it sounds harsh - but that's I how I feel this time around.

First of all it is NOT complicated. It is only complicated because the liberal media and crooked politicians have convinced you it is compicated. There is nothing complicated about enforcing the law. Attrition by enforcement. Simple.
Legalizing them is going to provide the government with a bettter source of income? What did you just fall off of the turnip truck? The amnesty bill will sell them citizenship for $5,000.00. The average illegal consumes $17,000.00 a year more in services than they contribute. That is still a net loss.
It is estimated that the legalization process will cost 2.5 trillion dollars,,,what you thought it was free?

Questioner: Your Democratic Congress have already voted to give SS benefits to illegals and Bush signed an agreement to give them benefits when they were granted amnesty!!! and that was two years ago
