If the wall wouldn't help, why is Mexico's President so against it to the point he makes comments?

The ONLY reason that he said anything is that it would make it harder for Mexican citizens to cross the border to the USA. When the Mexican government MAKES pamphlets for people to tell them HOW to break the other sovereign countries laws and WHERE to go to get aid in the other country as a welfare policy, something is severely messed up.

If it makes it harder, wouldn't it actually be doing the actual purpose of it being there? So why NOT build it? There are already laws on the books for it to happen!!

Correct me if I am wrong.

Answer:
Calderon is mad because a wall causes two problems for him.
1.) part of his plan to fight poverty includes sending people to the U.S. ,and as crazy as the pamphlets are, they do save the lives of illegals who will be crossing over anyway

2.) there is a substantial amount of money being sent back to Mexico from illegals. It falls second to oil exports. why would he want to mess that up?

You are right, it is severely messed up.

A wall will help slightly, but I think the answer lies internally.

why are there so many illegals coming over?
To find jobs. To escape poverty.

are they finding jobs in the U.S despite their illegal status?
Yes.

I think we have to enforce the current laws and aggressively go after employers who knowingly hire illegals. this will cut off the incentive to come to the U.S.

the bigger question is, why isn't our country doing this?

peace.
i know what pamphlets you are talking about and i find them kind of embarrassing

i'm not sure if mexico's government is the ones making those pamphlets, but if they are, then i feel mexico is digging their hole deeper and deeper

on the bright side, the pamphlets advise people to follow the laws in america once inside and help them to not die in the dessert or accidentally become part in a drug cartel
You are right and I agree.

I'm open to a REAL physical alternative (not just cameras) at the rio grande since I don't like separating our folks from the river, except in those urban areas where people can 'scatter' into yards or waiting cars. That is a tough one. However, unless something as good is suggested, the fence is in fact what is on the books.
Excellant point, Calderon actually encourages his people to break the law.what kind of a neighbor is that? With friends like that, who needs enemies? The fence needs to be built.the employers need to be severely penalized, and our govt needs to be totally re-tooled as they have been trying to give this country away piece by piece...
As far as the fence goes...I am afraid we need more than just a fence...we need people there to be watching, not just cameras.there has to be an instant reaction to a breech...look, if we take away what the Illegals Value, there wouldnt be this mass exodus from Mexico...

EDIT-To a degree, Spaz is right...more of a physical prescense is needed at the border...tunneling has been found there as well
look a wall would be pointless waste of money[it's called a ladder] if the US really wanted to do anything about border security they'd hire more guards

[prove me wrong]

edit: dig a tunnel under the fence
You are right. The people that are against it know it would work. Maybe not one hundred percent of the time, but it would cut illegal immigration across our southern border dramatically. Combine it with enforcing our employment, housing, and government assistance laws and the results would be amazing. Of course the government in Mexico would be against it. They would have to deal with their own problems, and face mobs of angry citizens that have no one left to complain to but them. It would also be more work for them to enforce their immigration laws if they didn't have the option of allowing their illegals to cross over into the US. But that would create some new jobs there. And maybe a new respect for what the US has been dealing with for so long.
i don't think the wall will work unless it is made of brick and very tall. i think the only answer is more border guards with orders to subdue illegals and immediately return them to mexico. if they are not mexican citizens let mexico deal with them. following the laws we have in place and doing away with the anchor baby system would help.
They say that building a wall is impossible because they think it discourages those who want to do something about the issue.

On the other hand, the wall would present an extra challenge for the immigrants, and Calderon wants none of that, so of course he's going to speak against it (as if Mexico had any say in our own border issues).
I agree that everyting that is needed to stop the influx of illegals should be done ASAP. If they want to make it electrical, I'm all for it. I also believe that a strong border control enforcement be put in place by the USA and only hire experienced men and women to do this job.
No American citizen cares about what Felipe Calderon says about OUR border wall/fence. His people are his problem and the wall will make it even more so. He can distribute all the pamphlets he wants, when the people trying to cross have no luck when they encounter extreme resistance, they can burn them to roast peppers on their side of the wall.
Yes, we need the wall, it's essential to keeping these people from continuing to enter our country. The wall has to be just like the ones surrounding super-max prisons. An electrified, razor-wired fence will do its job, if we ever build it. And the fence/wall needs to guarded, heavily. Why not offer as an incentive for Mexicans wanting to enter America LEGALLY, a job on the border patrol once they gain their citizenship. The pay would be good, and I seriously doubt that new American citizens who have gone through the legal process, and the process is no picnic, would allow anyone to pass who hasn't done the work. Besides, there would be safeguards in place, checkpoints, perimeter monitoring, to prevent that from happening anyway. Who knows, maybe once they feel the soul of America they will respect her enough to want to protect her borders from freeloaders.
A Fence needs to be Built, with Sentry Towers at spaced
intervals. We need Border Guards not just a virtual Fence.
These people need to be treated humanely, but told in clear
terms they will not be permitted to enter illegally. We need to
get the Employers thrown in Jail. It is not proper to take advantage of others misfortune. That said , they aren't America,s responsibility.
The fence is not going to be built.the border with Mexico is 1,950 miles long..ain't gonna happen..

Can't electrify it.what about the cattle, horses and other animals who free range - to say nothing about children and others.

Anyway, if you build a 20 foot high fence, they will just bring a 21 foot ladder.

That whole "fence" thing was hyped up for the dummies to keep them diverted from the real problems America has - like the WAR in Iraq, failing economy, broken infrastructure, jobs being outsourced, poisonous food from China, shoddy equipment being built overseas - and the general neglect of our current idiots-in-charge. The "fence" gave a focus for those who can't read or think or know what a really, really dumb and impossible idea it is.
