Why won't the government enforce the laws already on the books?

Many pro-amnesty supporters offer the canard that there are 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants in our country. We cannot keep every illegal immigrant out or expel the ones living here. That might be true, but it is also true that we can't prevent every rape and murder. Does that mean we shouldn't attempt to enforce the laws against rape and murder and try to prosecute the perpetrators?
In addition to greater efforts to secure our borders, there are several non-rocket-science steps we can take. People who are here illegally should be denied access to any social service such as Medicaid, public education and food assistance programs. An exception might be made for temporary emergency medical treatment. In some cities, such as Los Angeles, police are prohibited from asking people they stop about their immigration status. While state and local police shouldn't be turned into federal agents, they shouldn't knowingly conceal criminal acts.
The United States is a nation of immigrants from all over the world. The resulting ethnic mosaic goes a long way toward explaining our greatness as a nation. Immigration has always been a blessing for us, and it still is. But yesteryear's immigration and today's differ in several important respects. For the most part, yesteryear's immigrants came here legally. Because there was no welfare state, we were guaranteed that they'd work as opposed to living off the rest of us. Furthermore, they sought to assimilate and adopt our culture and become Americans. That's not so true today, where Hispanic activists seek to impose their language and culture on the rest of us. At some public schools, they've raised the Mexico flag atop the U.S. flag. They've announced that they seek to take back parts of the U.S. that were formerly Mexico.

Answer:
It is the lack of enforcement that created this problem. The amnesty of 1986 was supposed to "fix" the problem. Big business is profiting from the illegals. Taxpayers are suffering for it. Liberals "claim" they support taxpayers, but in actuality they offer more support for illegal aliens.
They claim that deportation and tightening our laws would make us "look bad" to other nations. Many European nations have tougher laws and are toughening their laws and enforcement. Our southern neighbor has very strict and enforced laws. They deport more annually than we do. Their southern border has armed guards.
I want the same for our southern border, and frankly, I don't care how UN-PC some consider my opinion. I'd rather speak out for Americans and the USA, than cringe in fear of offending illegal aliens. Our government needs to develop a spine and enforce the law.
The usual reason is politics. Believe me, we don't need more laws...just enforcement of the ones we have is fine.
A one word answer... LIBERALS!
Because the plan is a north american union. Ask your local police department why they harrass americans and let illegals just sit by our local parks and businesses.
25 years from now, if humans haven't blown themselves into oblivion, we will still have this same debate. It will never end. Politicians do not have the people in mind. It is a sad state of affairs.
One reason and one reason only. Our country is being ran by the Secular Movement. There are articles out on the internet that will make your skin crawl. When the people of this country wake up and take a good look at whats going on, then changes will be made. I just don't think that will ever happen though. We are the "Roman Empire" in today's standards. We will soon fall as well. Sorry for the negative answer!
nice speech. the fact is the laws are not enforced because noone wants to be called a racist.. Its sad to me when Illegals can protest in the middle of LA and noone starts rolling up some buses to deport them.. Ironically I visit california, get cited for having out of state license plates in california and have to come back to the state 4 or 5 times to prove I don't live there.. weird state.. they should have just DEPORTED me to my home state and saved me the trouble / expense of coming back..and Im a US citizen. but can't ask the illegals now..might offend someone

edit: shane b.. what does the "secular" movement have anything to do with this..stop watching too much TV and half listening. do you even know what secular means?

Secularity (adjective form secular) is the state of being separate from religion.. I.e not living under islamic law where your stoned for adultery...

nothing whatsoever to do with this subject.. learn before you post
They don't enforce the laws because we don't make them enforce the laws. Its our job to be the watch dog of who we put in office. We have bee electing them and just letting them go. This practice has proven to be not to our best interest.
They don't want too!!
They don't care that we have 20+ million illegal alien criminals. If they did, they would have enforced the laws that were pass decades ago!

Remember, they WANTED amnsety!
Politicians are lawyers who create the laws that no human can understand. That's the plan. You must present lawyers with large sums of money to even get heard in court. After that, the real fleecing begins.

A new client had just come in to see a famous lawyer.
"Can you tell me how much you charge?", said the client.
"Of course", the lawyer replied, "I charge $200 to answer three questions!"
"Well that's a bit steep, isn't it?"
"Yes it is", said the lawyer, "And what's your third question?"
Why should Bush & Cheney spend the money to enforce the laws on the books and to secure the borders and ports when they can use that money to siphon off the huge profits of Middle Eastern Oil into their pockets? BIG GOVERNMENT FOR BIG BUSINESS.
I agree with Steve. Liberals. I also agree with the notion of enforcing our current laws. We need to elect officials that will do just that and stop catering to the illegals its totally ridiculous.
They want the NAU
Its not just liberals! Its corporations too.Our govt. doesn't enforce the laws because it doesn't benefit them to do so...These people pay for campaigns, big money...People get a clue!
The state, local, and federal govts don’t want to enforce the US immigration laws for various reasons, but I think the most important is that the illegals are such a valuable part of our economy. Since the economy is strong and unemployment is low, politicians look the other way at the invasion of our nation. However, if the economy goes into recession, the govt will suddenly start deporting many more illegals.

Big business wants the cheap labor that the illegals provide, and they like the fact that the illegals keep wages down in certain industries, such as, construction, roofing, and other blue collar jobs.
How ridiculous are you? You paint all Hispanic immigrants as living off the rest of us when as an Angeleno and business owner, most of the illegals I encounter are just here trying to make a living. Have you been to a restaurant lately? Who are the guys in the back, the busboys? Have you been to a garment factory? A construction site? Have you ever driven by Skid Row where there are thousands of Citizens loitering around for god knows what reason instead of getting off their asses... I know what the problem here is. Empolyers want to hire them because they WORK HARD but God forbid if they get hurt and need medical attention or have the gall to get married and have kids and "gasp!" want them to get an education. We (employers) want the labor but the rest of you are appalled when they begin filling our schools and ER rooms. Sure a fringe group of activitists like Mecha and Atzlan may speak sedition nonsense but NOBODY doubts what California would look like if it were part of Mexico.

We need Immigration reform and not some knee jerk reaction like "illegal is illegal" Get the f$%^ out. There is no sane reason why people willing to work shouldn't be allowed to work here legally. There is also no sane reason why we cant control our borders or keep track of people coming into our country either which although imperfect, the immigration bill that was killed recently in congress was a good starting point. But most americans screamed "no amnesty for illegals" and it died. I dont know ONE SINGLE business owner who would prefer to hire anybody else but an illegal for menial work. THAT is the problem. As long as there are jobs... there will be illegal aliens.

legal immigration? okay you tell a starving mexican family to wait seven years instead of walking across the border where he will find ready employment.

No im not illegal or hispanic. No Im not an open borders advocate but this problem is far more complicated then most people understand.
The libs money&Votes they could care less what we think or want. I call everyday to my Sen- to enforce our laws, close the borders,Wears the fence. An there are so many illegals in this
county get them out.
I also do not understand why a country would make laws and then not enforce them. In my opinion it is because many profit from the cheap labor of the illegal immigrant, as well as avoiding many of the employment taxes and workers compensation premiums. Many are willing to look the other way while big business breaks immigration laws.

Illegal immigrants can be easily exploited for profit with very little fear of legal action. Employers are not concerned with the fact that the average citizen must pay for all the services used by illegal immigrants such as education, Medicaid and food assistance programs. We must keep contacting our legislators until we are impossible to ignore, use our votes and send a message that we already have immigration laws and its high time we enforced them.
They are getting too much money off the illegal groups to actually do their jobs.
Even though I agree with you on the illegal immigrants, I must ask you if you really know just how many laws are on the books and how hard it would be to enforce them all, all the time?
