What is the best way to obtain a fiancee visa to the UK?

My fiancee is a British citizen (currently residing in Scotland), I'm an American. Known each other for years on the internet. Met after about seven years. Lived together in America for a while. The plan is to move to Scotland, get married, and live out our lives in bliss. The only problem is that we haven't been able to get any straight answers on this whole Fiancee Visa thing. What's the cost? How long does it take? How can I apply? What interviews do I have to go to? Do I have to have certain shots to live there? Can I apply while I'm in the UK? What repurcussions are there if I do apply after I've entered the UK? Does he have to go to an interview also? Does he have to have a certain job to prove he can support me without government funds? Does he have to have held it for a certain length of time? How should we go about proving that there will be a place for us to live? Gosh. So many questions about this.

I would recommend the Fiance one for you (there are 3 different times which you can fall under as such the following answers are as per Fiance's).
Settlement: Fiance(e)s
Settlement: Proposed Civil Partnership
Settlement: Unmarried Partners (Commonlaw Spouses) & Same Sex Partners

What's the cost?
Marriage - Fiance(e) / Proposed Civil Partnership / Spouse / Civil Partner $1050

*whistles* You sure ask a lot of questions. I really did want to try to answer them all but I'm tired and have to start work early... ^_^ Still I've left you the link from where you should be getting your information from (the British embassy in the USA, however there are a few in different states). I think your best bet would be to go to the website and they will have most of the answers to your questions. The rest you should be able to call up and ask the embassy about.

Good luck.
I can help (My wife had to do that - she's Brasilian). Best place to check in the UK home office page, then check up under visas. You, not your fiance in Scotland, have to make the application, and you have to make it to the British Embassy or nearest British Consulate in your country (in your case the USA). The home office webstie gives more details:

Just look for the part that says Fiance.
Can't believe you've not looked there already. Your fiance should have known about this.
