What do you think of the proposed immigration bill?

Answer:
It's amnesty, nothing more. Personally I would prefer they not address the illegal in this bill, just fund the enforcement of the laws we have on the books already. This will take care of the illegals for us.
its just "Red Tape" another way the government is spending our money for "Nothing"
Amnesty all around!!

If you break it down this way, you know the immigrants should receive amnesty: When you consider that the most hardcore trouble-makers in our society -- the ones most usually responsible for robberies, beatings, rape, gun crime, gang membership, drug sales, terroristic threatening, domestic abuse, failure to pay child support, insider trading in stocks, war profiterring, cheating on federal taxes, etc. -- are NATIVE-BORN, I say the tiny crime of being illegally in this country demands nothing less than immediate and no-strings amnesty.
its just a cop out for bigger issues... did you know that the US get MOST of its oil from Mexico ( not the middle east like we all think ) that's why the boarders will never be shut tight...
I think all politicians are ignoring the peoples wish to have all illegals sent back to there countries. Now we have terrorist that will be legal immigrants should this bill pass.
The agreement that has just been reached is a very BAD, BAD, BAD agreement that eliminates many family-based categories and makes it MORE DIFFICULT to immigrate through family. No, it will not help anyone and will make things much worse for both illegal and legal immigrants and will make things worse for the country. It does not reflect American family values whatsoever.

The agreement does not increase the total number of immigrant visas per year, a number which has been much too low for many years already.

The agreement ELIMINATES the following categories for family-based immigration:
- Unnmarried sons and daughters (over age 21) of citizens
- Unmarried sons and daughters (over age 21) of permanent residents
- Married sons and daughters of citizens (regardless of age)
- Brothers and sisters of citizens

Those who would be able to adjust would have to pay huge fines ($5000) and WOULD STILL have to leave the country to get everything done. That's in addition to the astronomical filing fees of a few thousand dollars, legal fees should you choose to get help navigating this brand new maze of paperwork, travel costs, and time away from your US job. And as I know all to well, when you have to go abroad to do something with immigration, its rare that you're only gone a few days. The cost to legalize through the program is out of reach for most of the people its supposedly intended to help.
What we really need is a law requiring countries we import from to have minimum wages comparable to our own. If people in Mexico and China were paid a decent wage instead of the money going into the pockets of the wealthy, they wouldn't have to come here to make a living.
I agree that it is, in effect, amnesty. The short-term quest for political power, with no regard for the long term best interests of our country, will be the death of our democracy. Twenty million new voters that vote overwhelmingly for one party will shift the power to the socialists and quicken the pace of decline.
Theres not much they can do in the big picture but make people mad. yes this may in force some of this problem solving but it will only make the immigrants think of more harmful ways to come into the country. I don't like it ether but if its something then fine.

in sort it is just going to make more problems then it is worth.
The bill S^CKS! It rewards bad behavior. If it passes, it'll just be one step closer to full amnesty. The "illegal" block won't stop until they have everything they want. The writers of the bill say it is a compramise. What the F%CK! What!? We'll enforce laws already in the books???!!??? They should already be putting these people in the jails. I don't have a problem w/ a guest worker program. They come in the work and they LEAVE. I see things in terms of dollars. They are a benefit when they work and leave. They are a liability when they work and stay. When they stay, they suck up resources. It costs money to educate their kids. It costs money to police them. It costs money to pay for their health care. The "illegal" block constantly says what of financial benefit it would be if amnesty is granted. BULL SH!T !! If somone makes very litttle income, then you collect very little income tax. Actually, you get no income tax money. When I was kid and worked the resturant bizz, the government gave me a refund check every yr. Some yrs, it wasn't even worth it to file. The flip side is they get a even more benefits. They'll get SS money when they retire. Bottom line, they get more out of the system then they put in! I'm not a racist. If these were white Candians coming over, then I would feel the same. It's simply bad from a financail stand point to make them citizens. If you're the bleeding heart type, then give away your own money.
It is just as bad as the last one they tried. The problem is trying to bite off too much. The first thing they should do is handle the border and enforcement. That is what 85% of Americans want, but who cares what we think. All of the other issues should be held off on until then.

The public is being brainwashed by the media about what the issue really means and what is at stake for us as a country. Watch every single news story and every press conference and all they talk about is the Illegals!! Back to that 85%, who cares what they think. Too many people don't understand what the impact will be.

There are 12-20 million of them in the country now. If this bill were in fact to pass just think about this. Say 12 million actually come out and get a visa. They are then automaticlly eligible for every single government entitlement program by law. They will be signing up by the masses and this will cost money. Now take into account the other part of the bill that relates to family.

They will be able to then bring in children, spouses and parents as part of this. Now, what does the 12 million that so many say is not a big deal look like? If you use the U.S. Governments own numbers this will be anywhere from the base 12 million to 110 million 3-5 years after passage. Now what does that really mean to us as a country?

By giving this legal status the U.S. would be flooded with up to 110 million un-educated, non-english speaking, low and non-skilled people. All of them with a legal right to every entitlement program offered in this country. This is the big picture that no one thinks about. This is not an issue of race as they want you to think.

What impact will this have on the standard of living? What impact will this have on the schools, services, law inforcment, ect. The financial impact will be huge on the population and it will need to be paid for. Who is going to pay for all of these costs? How much tax money will you get from all that will be added to the country? Think about it, 58% of the taxes collected now are from 10% of the population. The total taxes collected in the U.S. are from just under 40% of the population.

So you have roughly 60% that don't pay income tax and now you add another 100 million, you do the math. It is just pure logic that 99% of the new legal citizens will not be in an income brackett that will be paying income taxes. Where is this money going to come from. Those that want in don't care and those of us that know we will have to pay do care.

At the end of the day this is not just about money. There is humanity and compassion for their plight. I understand that everyone wants to come to this country. I also understand that far too many are waiting as they go though the correct way, the legal way. We say we are a country of laws and that just isn't true when your government does not inforce them.

In the end all that is being done is "Vote Catching". Our leaders don't really give a damn about all of these people. They just want to be the one that can say " I made you legal" now give me your vote.
Once this bill is signed into law the illegal will be legally here, with out having to do anything else they will be entitled to all citizens rights and can bleed this country dry.
If it looks like S***, smells like S***, and tastes like S***, then it must be S***, right!
Treason!
It's good. It has flaws, but it legalizes the illegals, which is what most people in america want.
It's a sell out, Call your congress person to day and tell them what you think about it. Let's vote out any congress person who votes for it.
Unlawful Entry is a CRIME. Zero tolerance for immigration-law violators! No amnesty, no "stealth-amnesty." No "change of status," marriage fraud, "exceptional leave to remain," no "Temporary Protected Status." If you break the law, depart or be deported. Illegal aliens kill more US citizens each year than the war in Iraq has killed in four years. Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland. Taxpayers are being forced to pay for the free health care, education, and other welfare programs being given to illegal aliens; Those tax dollars could be given back to U.S. taxpayers or used to keep our borders secure; They may be here illegally, but they sure know how to "work the system" to collect "free" medical care, "free" education, "free" food, Section 8 housing vouchers and other housing assistance, and hundreds of other social services. It costs citizens additional hundreds of billions of tax dollars at every level: local, state, and federal. It gobbles up billions of our charitable contributions. And much of that money ends up siphoned out of our economy and into offshore accounts. Illegal aliens, over half of whom work "under the table" with neither job nor income reported (nor taxed), are not counted as employed or unemployed. But some of those day-labor and off-the-books "job-lets" would be "real" jobs - available to American citizen job-seekers - if employment regulations were enforced. Illegal aliens can get away with tax evasion, et al., which citizens cannot. In short, we have too many workforce entrants and too few jobs created. The ratio works out to roughly 7-10 workforce entrants per job created. If all illegal aliens depart or are deported, all legal immigration halted, and all temporary employment visas abolished, we still have a problem with more US-born workforce entrants than new jobs created. Illegal immigration damages our country and our citizens every day at every level. And not even the attacks of 2/26 and 9/11 have awakened many Americans to the vast dangers illegal immigration poses to our selves, our families, our communities, our society, our values, our principles, our civilization. Zero Tolerance for Immigration-Law Violators! We must remember the lessons of 2/26, 9/11, and the costs we bear every single day. God Bless the U S A !
In 1996 the Huddle study estimated that the total burden of illegal immigrants on the tax payers was 24 billion annually. That was ten years ago! That takes into account the taxes the illegal immigrants SHOULD have paid into the system. We have so many social and economic issues to resolve in the U.S. its ridiculous to throw in an additional 10 million working poor into the system.
I am surprised it doesn't include making Spanish the national language
