A question for Americans of Mexican descent only. Please?
Answer:
I am 150% against amnesty. My great-grandparents on my father's side (I'm part Caucasian) came from Mexico LEGALLY. They worked for YEARS to save the money for the family to come. My great grandfather, grandfather, and my father all fought in wars for the US. They were proud to live here. Proud to have the chance to serve the country that gave them so much. I hate it that Mexicans can come here nowadays, refuse to learn ENGLISH, and fly their Mexican flag in their front yard.
What happened to the era, when people came to this country the right way and were d@mn proud to be here? Where has that time gone? Back in the early 1900s, when somebody came here, they were given classes on how to be an American. They learned English and how to act like an American. Where has that gone? Why do I have to dial 1 to speak English? Why do I only get a pay incentive for learning Spanish?
All in all, my family and I are completely against this amnesty crap. It would be like me robbing a bank and then expecting the cops to let me go free AND keep the money. It just doesn't work that way. Why should our government reward CRIMINALS?
I feel we should deport the ones that commit crimes in this nation ..Mexican or any other race who is not legal. It has not effected us financially but when it comes to race..it has..my mom,dad and uncles have gotten racially discriminated in restaurants and other places just because they are Mexican with all this illegal immigration issue, and they are full citizens of this country..they came here when they were babies and yet they still get bashed on..i think its bull****.
IT'S NOT AN AMNESTY! HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO CLEAR THIS UP?
The bill would give TEMPORARY legal status to millions of unlawful immigrants, provided they came forward, paid a fine and underwent criminal background checks. To apply for a green card, they would have to pay another fine, learn English, return to their home country and wait in line.
The plan also would create a guest worker program. It would allow foreign laborers to come to the U.S. for temporary stints, yet with no guarantee they can eventually gain citizenship.
Both the new visa plan and the temporary worker program are contingent on other steps coming first. Those include fencing and barriers along the Mexico border, the hiring of more Border Patrol agents and the completion of an identification system to verify employees' legal status.
The legislation would also reshape future immigration decisions. A new point system would prioritize skills and education over family in deciding who can immigrate
Illegal immigration has helped out MY TOWN very much. Our economy is growing, making our home equity rise, adding new businesses to the neighborhood, adding jobs, etc...although there are some "bad apples" in our community but the good outweighs the bad A LOT.In my community, illegal immigration isn't seen as a bad thing, it's actually helping us move up the ladder.
I don't agree with the word "amnesty" because it's not. Amnesty is when you grant citizenship to everyone and that is obvioulsy not the case.
Call it what you will, this would do three disastrous things...
It would cost Americans $21,000 per year per illegal family and BANKRUPT the US
and
It would prevent Americans from filing lawsuits against companies which illegally employ illegals, companies which broke the law and which need to be sued out of existence
and
It would encourage illegals from ALL OVER THE WORLD to come break our laws
I have to be honest and say I have mixed feelings about it. I believe that if people want to live here so badly that they are willing to risk their lives crossing over dangerous terrain in some places, that they should be given the chance to come over here legally. I do believe however that residency and/or citizenship should be EARNED. I have seen both sides to this issue and there are a lot of pros and cons to amnesty. I tend to back up a Temporary Guest Worker Program rather than amnesty for everyone already here, because in my opinion not all of them deserve amnesty. I see the human side of illegal immigration and am compassionate, but I don't like it when someone "bites the hand that feeds them" so to speak. In retrospect, I don't see how this will affect me personally, but I'll be happy when this is all behind us.
While I am not of Mexican descent myself, my wife and her family are. That is my qualification for answering this question. I can tell you first hand that they are incredibly angry about our current border and immigration status. This bill they are proposing is a huge mistake. Her family waited 7 years before they were able to become legal citizens. They followed all the rules as frustrating as it was at times, but they are proud U.S. citizens and have full integrated with society. They speak fluent English, have professional jobs and would die for this country. My in-laws are repeatedly discriminated against because of the countries growing anger towards the illegals. It is only after they take the time to hear their story, do they get an apology. Sadly, too many people don't get to hear their story.
I have Mexican friends that are American citizens and were born here , They are very upset about the fact that the borders aren't closed and that the Government is trying to pass a amnesty bill . They believe that every illegal should be sent back and made to enter legally , like their parents did . That's the American way , don't break the laws and become good citizens .
Interesting question, for us Mexican Americans. Well my family has been here since the early 1900's been in WWII and other wars.
Like all families when it comes to politics there are mixed feelings some are for it some are not. However I would say from conversations I have had with my family or have over heard, majority of them would like to see some form of reform of the immigration system.
I honestly have to say that illegal immigration has not affected me or my family at all. Majority of my family has attended either a 2 year college or a 4 year university or is in some branch of the military.
I was told by one of my family members who is currently in Iraq that he has meet a few people who are in the military in order to have a green-card. He stated what better way to become an American than fighting for this country.
We personally feel its a great thing, if there is background checks done so the ones who have given the good ones a bad name can be sent home.
Illegal immigration hasnt affected us in anyway...other then the fact that maybe its has broadened our horizons a lot on what someone would be willing to go through for a better life.
PS.True authentic Mexican food is also a great benefit of it also....it is sooooooooooo good!
