It is basically amnesty but with a fine deferred for 8 years. They didn't do the paperwork or pay the fees the first time, I seriously see the majority of them doing it now...they will whine the fine is too steep and punitive. If this thing goes through I see a mad rush for the border by even more illegals trying to claim they have been here and are thus eligible to file. They tried amnesty before, it was supposed to end illegal immigration...it only made it worse. I fail to see how people keep saying the current laws don't work when they are not enforced, you have to actually enforce them in order for them to work.

No it's like saying you can dodge your responsibility of paying taxes for 8 years, pay 1 percent of what you owe and then scoff down all the entitlement benifits you can grab...
the real issue is young people that are high school dropouts/ not high achievers in early life of there teens and 20's end up having a real tough time getting out of the dead end scene and finding a good job. there are going to be millions of illegal imagrants that will now be on the road to legal status and will get these jobs. this happened during the Reagan years... I am a Conservative and I think the last amnesty was a total flop and we are going to do it again... Now that is really stupid!!! eh but it sells votes and give those guys in Washington a reason to go golfing with the lobbyist!
No, its like speeding, paying a $5000 penalty and then driving the speed limit with a special Z license for 8 years at which point you can request a regular license by reporting to the border.
If this bill strengthens the border like they (the politicians) say it will then at least it's a start. The problem has a lot of cause and there really is no one fix for it. The blame for the problem can be spread around pretty liberally and you will still probably miss someone who deserves it.
The question is how do politicians fix the problem without raising taxes, causing riots, and splitting the people of this country even worse than we already are. I may not agree with this bill, but it's the first thing that Washington has done about it in years.
If you want to stop this then the first step is to secure the borders. Stop the flow then deal with the rest of the problem.
