I am a Us citizen and I'm interested in becoming a British citizen. What are the steps I need to take ?

Answer:
I just went through all this for my partner and our 4yr old boy.

The easiest way is to live with a British citizen for 24 months and then prove it by showing joint bills and accounts, bank accounts, council taxes etc. This will enable you to apply for unlimited right to remain as a partner of a British citizen. (costs 399 pounds by post 4 weeks) or (599 pounds for instant interview 2-3 days) you need to be in legal status if applying from the UK.

Now here are the issues, you are supposed to stay for 6 months once per year and then leave on your 6 month entry Visitors visa so you will have to do this 4 times. A longer visa would be better; student or Business or any others that they may do.

You could also come here, meet someone and get married and apply from the US for a Spousal Visa.

Once you have been here for 5 years you can get Citizenship as a Business owner, Spouse or partner of a British citizen.

There are also certain Professions that are welcomed here so you could go that route too. Medical, Education, Engineering, Scientist etc.

Hey you may be able to swap places with me, I'll take your place in the USA and you can have my lot here LOL :-) bring your Umbrella;-)

It is easier to migrate here than into the US and we are more accepting helpful and friendly, we don't try to catch you out.

Make sure you ask the right questions when dealing with immigration as they don't give any alternative answers, rephrase your questuions if you do not feel that you have the right answer, there are always alternatives.

Example; it took me 2 weeks of ringing around and research to find out about the unlimited right to remain as a partner of a British citizen, they told me many times that she had to apply from the USA, I eventually spoke to a supervisor/manager who had more experience. I just said surely there must be some way of applying from here, it is ridiculous to have to travel 6000 miles just to fill in a form that is coming back here. I got my good answer there and then.

Good Luck
For one you'd have to give up your American citizenship first. Britain's can have duel citizenship, but American can not.
Its a five step process.

1. don't brush your teeth for 8 years
2. think benny hill is funny
3. enjoy David Hasselhoffs music
4. think that baseball is too fast of a game and needs to last longer
5. believe the usa has too efficient of a political system and needs to be bogged down by as many political parties as possible.
