How to check the status of my Perm application for Green Card Processing?
Would appreciate if you provide a detail answer for the said process. Thanks.
Answer:
That depends on what form you filed, and through which route you're pursuing immigration.
If you're the spouse of a USA citizen and are pursuing immigration through a spouse using them as a sponsor and filed the I-130 followed by the DS-230, then the Department of Homeland Security would be the ones you would check with. However, the last correspondence you received would state how long to wait before you contact them. Some forms take longer then others and unnecessary checking could delay your immigration even further.
Once approved for a green card as a permanent or conditional permanent resident, you are immediately authorized to work. However, most employers will not hire you until you have your Social Security number. Even if you bring a printout directly from the Department of Homeland security stating you can be hired without one so long as you have the temporary card in your passport and a letter stating you have applied for a social security card. It takes 4-6 weeks to receive your social security after you apply because it now has to be checked with the department of homeland security.
Though, that's just generalized, each type of case is handled differently. If you want a more accurate answer, you'll have to include more details about your individual case.
