Senate Amendments Threaten Immigration Plan ...have you seen what some are wanting now?
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said that one amendment would gut the system for companies to verify that employees are legally eligible to work in the U.S. Another proposal would alter a program to give preference to immigrants with job skills, which Republicans demanded.
One proposal, by Iowa Republican Charles Grassley and Democrats Max Baucus of Montana and Barack Obama of Illinois, would eliminate the requirement that employers verify the legal status of every worker in order to detect employees who are undocumented immigrants.
In a letter urging its rejection, Chertoff warned that the amendment ``eliminates needed tools'' to enforce the law and would ``continue a flourishing market for fake documents and identity fraud."

Absolutely! I hear all of the sob stories about families being separated and they knew that this could happen and disregarded the law. There is a consequence for breaking the law. Obama is next to Ted Kennedy in my book. Employers must answer to the law as far as employing illegals. We can't give our citizens a chance at these jobs? If that immigration bill passes, there will be h*ll to pay in the private sector as Americans will not tolerate being left behind for the sake of illegal criminals any more. The politicians better take heed and get busy on enforcing the laws we have, the sooner, the better!
Get real. The killer amendments will never pass. Dont think I am for a second intimidated by this.

In the unlikely event this passes the Senate, the House has already said they will put this bill through the Ginsu Bill-O-Matic and shred it with amendments and changes virtually assuring it will die it's well deserved death.
