What do you think about what Teddy Roosevelt said on immigration?

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith, becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American… There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”—Theodore Roosevelt, 1907

Answer:
If there was a reason why his likeness is carved into Mt. Rushmore; this would have to be it.
Past Presidents have said and acted ways contrary to what we think today!

There is nothing uncertain about how TR felt toward blacks. TR thought the blacks as a race were immensely inferior to the white race
Absolutely perfect summation.
oh, how I wish that he could be our president today!!
Teddy is right...but why when we are entering a global market are we afraid of being bi-lingual. I envy a lot of Europeans who speak more than one language. I was in Germany and I thought it was great how so many Germans could speak English, and French so fluently. I think highly of people who have good language skills and I think we should have higher expectations of children to learn more anyways in a changing world market. The Chinese kids are learning English to sell more to us in the future.
It's excellent! Love the part about one loyalty!
I believe past presidents were much more in tuned into what the people wanted and had a much more clearer vision of the future unlike today. Ironically we are much more connected society but everything is too scrambled..
I say: "Right on Teddy!"

I agree 110%. We need a President like Teddy.
As an immigrant to the US, I think it must have been nice to live in simpler times.

Things always seem good in speeches, but mostly never reflect reality.

Honestly i am proud NOT to be an American, and never will be either. I don't mean to sound harsh or offend, but that is the truth.
words of wisdom. It just shows that the more things change, the more they stay the same. This is exactly what we should adopt today.
Teddy Roosevelt= One of the BEST presidents the U.S has ever had.
As a naturalized American i agree with Theodore Roosevelt's remarks. I chose to come to the United States of America and to live here LEGALLY and follow the laws and pay taxes.

Although i will always have a placein my heart for my birth place, Cuba, as an American citizen and one who has received his education and made his life here, I owe everything I am to this country. I love America with all my heart and i agree that when one comes here he should respect the laws and learn the language, and defend the country if it should ever become necessary. That is what it means to be an American citizen.

God bless America, thank you for being a beacon of hope and opportunity, i hope that my adopted homeland remains the symbol of freedom and democracy for all the world!
