Marriage and immigration law in the UK?
I have a russian partner, we have been together for 1 year 3 months, now her visa is running out and she may not get an extension.
I would be willing to tie the knot to keep her here, but I dont know how the law works in this regard - also, if we divorced, would she be allowed to stay, could I lose all my cash to her (no mortgage yet)?
With all the diplomatic talk of a new cold war, we are scared if she goes home even temporarily, we may never see each other again, its hard enough at the moment even to get visiting visas.
Anybody been through this? or knows the law?

She'd need to be married and to live in the UK for 3 years to qualify for the citizenship, then apply for Naturalisation through the Home Office while still a resident.
She should be allowed to stay. Not too sure though! If your married she is a spouse of a UK citizen which (I think) makes her eligible to live here! Good luck x
Marriages of convenience are illegal. That is to say if you marry with the only intention of keeping your partner in this country and not because you want to be married for any other reason. If you divorce before 3 years then yes she could be sent back and yes she is entitled to half of everything you have unless you have a prenuptial agreement drawn up before you marry. See a lawyer for this.
I would go try for that extension and I wish you well hope she gets it.
I married a UK citizen in the USA.
There were no problems for me at all. The only thing we had to prove was that he could support me.
It was so much simpler than when we returned to the USA.
In order to get married in the UK your partner would need to apply for a Certificate of Approval from the government. She would need 3 months remaining on her visa in order to apply.
Once the Certificate has been granted you can get married. She can then make an application in the UK to remain here as your spouse.
