I have just applied for the I 130 from UK to USA - can I work?
I am currently in USA on a regular 90 day visa waivor for visitors, and will return to UK as I frequently do.
I previously worked here for 1 year in 2004 on a J1, and had a SS #.
Is there anything I can apply for so that I can reinstate my SS and work?
I have seen an online tutoring service, which needs Science teachers, and I have just graduated with a BSc hons and this job would be perfect as I could work from home and around my baby.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
BTW, I know that I would need further details from the Immigration office, I am just asking if anybody knows this first off.
Answer:
You can try applying for a work permit. But, if you filed the I-130 while you were living in the UK they probably won't approve it. You'll probably also have to have your interview at the embassy there. On the brightside, if you stay on top of the paperwork and send it right back immediately you probably only have about 4-6 months before you receive your conditional greencard.
if you are married to a US citizen (does not work if you are married to a permanent resident/greencard holder) you can get a temporary greencard immediately which allows you to work and you can apply for a permanent greencard.
Look into that. Otherwise it's going to be a lengthy process which could take a few years...
