Does immigration help or hurt developed nations?
Answer:
If it is controlled, and wew bring in people with skills we need yes it can be benefical, but when its illegal and 95% are going to be unable to read and write, much less not knowing what diseases etc they could be carrying without knowing.then it becomes a multi billiom dollar burdon on taxpayers, and the degenerating of a nation because people are here that have no loyalty or desire to be americans!
posibly it can be a help or hurt look when criminals inter to a nation what criminals make more crimes so it hurt the nation. ok when a poor person with illusions to be better in life and work to get more money so what he makes help the nation.
time magazine did a story on this a year ago...it said that although some countries tried to take in immigrants to boost the social security and whatnot, that the illegals were such a drain, that they had the opposite effect and now those countries are going down with the ship
Poor immigrants who take out more in benefits than they can put into the system in taxes will drain our services faster, not fund social security. Immigration to a point, under limits, is fine. Illegal immigration is above those limits, and is ruining our schools for our own children and our healthcare for our sick. And that healthcare we will need more and more as we age, don't you think?
Both sides have valid points to make. However, as things currently stand, but for immigration, most of the developed world has negative population growth. To keep the businesses running they need immigration. Even in the U.S., we would have a shortage of workers without illegal immigrants (6.8 million unemployed vs. 12 million illegal immigrants).
If there were a higher birth-rate among native-born citizens, a good argument could be made for restricting immigration. But low birth rates leave developed countries with very little option but permitting some immigration.
If you are interested in only the short term economic benifit of an ever increasing population then immigration is needed.
If you have a longer term plan and want your country to be a great place for your children and grandchildren then immigration is something that needs to be slowed or stopped. We only have so much free space, so much fresh water, energy supplies, ability to provide tax supported services like schools and hospitals.
A fast growing population is like a ponzi scheme - at some point even the nuttiest "go forth & multiply" person knows we will have too many people. And at that point its just too late to do anything about all of the problems.
Whether or not immigration helps or hurts already developed nations depends on the quality of the individuals immigrating. People immigrating who have very little to offer do not help a developed nation and often represent a major burden, depending on the size of the influx. When immigration is part of a legally recognized program, it helps to curtail this drain of resources.
We have a lower birth rate because we tend to only have as many mouths as we can feed. The majority of the American people aren't popping them out left and right and then running to the WIC line.
Help - they hone the skills of the developed nations' population. Disadvantages are exaggerated as people who rort welfare benefits cut across both immigrants and locals.
I think the world is big and is for everyone. Everyone should go to the country they think fits their beliefs.
If you want a burqa, go to burqa land. If you like bikinis, go to a country where you can wear one.
And I think all these different countries should live in peace and respect everyones different belief.
Nothing should be determined by color or ethinicity. Everything should be skin deep.
Immigration helps countries IF done according to law. We have quotas in place because too many immigrants place a burden on society. The illegal immigrants number in the millions and we cannot support such a large number.
It's more about balance. TOo many would hurt a country. Look at France, they have more immigrants than jobs. Riots broke out becasue of the disenfranchised North Africans living theer. Racism and other social woes increase. In other countries, it has become a necessity. Somecountry needs more laborers. The problem with illegal immigrants, is that it is no longer under our control on how many comes in. If there are more immigrants that come here than we can handle, it would do serious damage to our economy.
As it stands, Los ANgeles can not handle any more immigrants, because we no longer have the capacity to handle the population we do have. Other regions might be able to handle an increase in population. TO start of with, we do not have excess water to use for an increase in population.
