If the United States didn't offer jobs for undocumented workers, would they still come?

Answer:
It has nothing to do with offering jobs, and everything to do with having jobs that no one else wants to do. You don't see them running corporations or having a cushy government job. They're out there as janitors, or fast food workers, or dock workers. Stuff the rest of the population thinks they're too good for.
i think, the majority would get the big picture and stay out and come legally? but afew hardcore fools will still come and find way to beat the system?
Of course. They would come just to be in America. That's why everyone all over the world wants to come to America even though they hate us.
yes...we would just have more on welfare!
Maybe in fewer numbers, but, remember this, someone with a family member across the border can always find a job. Even if it's housekeeping.
They don't. Except for criminal employers (and we do have criminal employers) they all ask for indication that people are legally here before they employ them.

That is why there is such a huge market for fake documents.

However, yes, they would come for education, social services they can get through their kids or with fake ID, and the hit and miss practice of being able to 'regularize' status as a practical matter at some point while the child is growing up.

Remove ALL of the incentives and there would be no reason to come.
Yes. There are other issues we to need to address.. like anchor babies and criminal immigrants having access to our social services. But eliminating jobs for them would be a major step in the right direction.
No, of course not. How you could possibly get that to happen, I don't know, given that both businesses and consumers wouldn't allow it. Would you pay $6.00/lb for grapes, or $8.00/lb for tomatos, if the price went up because they had to pay people equitable wages? Would you volunteer to vacuum your office at night when your company found out they couldn't afford their maintainence crew anymore? Would you be happy when your own wages fell--two recent studies demonstrated that U.S. born workers in communities with more immigrants (both legal and illegal) tend to have higher wages than those in areas without immigrants?
Yes, it's a much better life here! The jobs that many are getting aren't exactly the most pleasant.
who is they
I don't think as many of them would come. It would be a great start to stopping the illegal immigration problem. Unfortunately there are corrupt companies in the US that will continue to hire cheap people to do cr@ppy jobs until the government does something more serious about it.
They come for many diffrent reasons NOW so if the jobs were not available, fewer would come, although many still would.

By the way, it is NOT the U.S. that is offering Jobs (although a Guest Worker program is being proposed, it is not law yet), it is EMPLOYERS who are paying them under the table ILLEGALLY, so it just "might" do some good to prosecute these employers. But everyone here likes to condone shooting immigrants instead of talking about real issues like this.
No! If there were no jobs for the ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINALS, they wouldn't come since they are looking for work.

Please stop this crap about "undocumented workers." It make them sound like they haven't committed a federal crime and that this CRIME is as meaningless as a parking ticket. The term is insulting!
Of course, to get state and federal benefits and continued getting free health care when they have their babies,,,,,,
I'm sure there are areas in agriculture that need workers etc. They have been comming legally and illegally since there was a border. They just used to leave. Now the benefits I think are more a draw than the employment. They couldn't live here on what they say they make without the services.....forget sending money back. Not to mention the drug business. It's a big business draw to come here for that. If the freebies were cut, housing codes enforced as well as a host of other laws that have been ignored.....they might have a different view of the real American life....you know....the one the rest of us has to live by.
yes, it may reduce the number of undocumented workers. of course what you're talking about, which sounds like a great idea to many in the US, is probably not as brilliantly simple as it sounds. it requires some serious rethinking and reorganizing on the part of American employers- from the single American household that hires a low-paid illegal house maid or gardener, to the big American corporations that hire field workers, labourers, etc. it's been said many times in these forums- undocumented workers, whether the US population likes it or not- do the jobs that keep some key parts of the economy moving. and others, let's call them "illegally documented" workers, ie. those working with illegal social numbers, pay taxes on their low-pay income (hence the social numbers).
yes, it's illegal, yes it's wrong, but the outrage that is often expressed at the thought that these workers are taking jobs from hard-working american people... i'm sorry i don't buy it. but to get back to your point- if the solution is so clear and simple, and if the US is dead serious about stomping out the problem- then WHY hasn't it been implemented?? could it be that there are certain sectors that would not benefit from this? could the US government be strong-armed by lobby groups into a plan of action that does not fit the wishes of the population?? hmmmm....just a thought.
And how did you get here?Hummm~I think I have a better paying job than most of you here. Have a great day!
Yes, They would still try for that American Dream.
I doubt they could afford to live here without an income. Right now their opportunities for employment are becoming broader. First they were doing migrant farm work, then they were in resaurants and domestic occupations. Now they have moved into packing houses (used to be $20 an hour) supermarkets and construction. Many are moving into management positions. Someday some may take your job too. When that happens your job will be one of those that no American wants. That's because the pay will be cut in half.
There will always be illegal job for criminal illegal aliens.
If the U.S. didn't offer jobs for undocumented workers, you and I would not have any fruit, vegtibles, and all that stuff that we buy. Why? Because we all know damn well that not you or me would go out to the fields in the summer heat when it's 105 degrees outside and be picking the cantalopes or the grapes or the cotton. I think immigrants are a very important part in the U.S. economy. Yes, I believe they shouldn't be able to have as many rights as the U.S. citizens, like access to welfare or foodstamps. I know a lot of U.S. Citizens who don't even work and it's not because they can't find a job, but because they don't want to work because they are too lazy.
Yes so they can get our welfare,Social Security etc.. for free without paying for it or into it.
