I am an US citizen and was born in Scotland do I have Duo Citizenship?

My dad was in the United States Navy and I was born while he was stationed in Dunoon Scotland. I was flown back a couple of weeks later and have not made it back. This was over 20 years ago. I do have an "Extract of an entry in a REGISTER of BIRTHS" from Scotland when I was born. My question is I am an US citizen because both of my parents are US citizens but do I also have citizenship in the United Kingdom? Sorry this is probably a really dumb question but I am just not sure of the laws across the pond. Thank you so much for all your help!

Answer:
Not unless you were born before 01 January 1983.

Birth, Registration or Naturalisation in the United Kingdom (UK).
For citizenship purposes the UK consists of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man
A person born in the UK before 01 January 1983 will be a British citizen automatically by birth with the exception of persons whose father was a foreign diplomat or an enemy alien at the time of the birth.

Birth in the UK after 31 December 1982 does not automatically confer citizenship. A person born there after this date will be a British citizen provided one of their parents is a British citizen or settled in the UK at the time of the birth.

If the British citizen parent is the father, there is a requirement that he be legally married to the mother at the time of the birth. The meaning of settled in the UK under the Immigration Act is that the parent is free from Immigration control and has been granted the right to enter or remain in the UK for an indefinite period.

A person who holds a certificate of registration/naturalisation issued by the Home Office in the UK will be a citizen from the effective date shown on the certificate.
you would have to check with the immigration serivices to check your citizen status. im not even sure if im just a US citizen or duo citizenship with US and China.
I would think yes. But dont know for sure.
i think its possible b/c my dad was born in Macau (near hong kong.. in asia 8]) and he moved over here. nows he's a us citizen and has a citizenship over there also.. so why wouldnt it be possible for other countries as well?
check with immigration services. However, technically, yes
yes both the us and uk allow dual nationality as you were born in the uk u qualify for uk citizenship.
You are if you were born before 1983 and am not if born after. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/british_cit...

Check the last sentence under "British citizenship by birth in the United Kingdom." on that web page
You very well might. Contact the local Scottish consulate and ask them. Maybe even apply for a Scottish passport. While the US doesn't officially recognize dual citizenship, they don't do anything about it either. I think it would be cool to have a Scottish passport. Just my 2 cents.
As far as I am aware US citizens can't have dual nationality. My friend married a us citizen and she came to live here in Scotland, went to take out British nationality and the us consulate told her she would have to give up her us citizenship. That's how it was in the 1980s. not sure if it has changed since.Contact your nearest BRITISH embassy(Scotland is part of great Britain )
You are British but you can claim US citizenship. But if you already have then you can supply your birth cert and you will get issued a British passport.
If you've got a British birth certificate then I would have to say yes, but of course since you've been out of the country for more than 5 years then your citizenship would have lapsed. If you are really interested in this question then as others have suggested you should contact the British Home Office for more info.
Good grief...what an entertaining loads of old trip you've been told so far: Yes, No, Get a Scottish Passport (there's no such thing).

When were you born?
If it was after 1/1/83 the answer is NO.

Check out the British Nationality Act 1981.http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/applyin...

NO - you CAN'T apply for "duo-citizenship" if you were born after the above date. Being 18, liking haggis, once having half watched a curling match.all irrelevant.
yes! you can apply for duo citizenship.
after yours 18th birthday if you are in UK or outside UK can can apply for duo citizenship.
US and UK allow duo citizenship.
