Why all of a sudden do some mexicans believe the american southwest belong to them?they weren't concerned?
Answer:
just trying to stir up trouble, sore losers, and lack of education... I find it funny when they say we invaded Mexico and stole their land.. when in fact they declared war on us, we won, and still paid them for their property..
They should look at the end of the Mexican War and realize the United States gained control of the area through accepted means in international law.
They should remember also that many in the United States wanted to annex all of Mexico, but only decided to what is now known as the American southwest.
I don't think that, and I never have, nor will I ever.Southwest belongs to this country and I live in the southwest and love it.It has the most beautiful sunsets...
:)
They want to steal the fruit of the work of the Americans who built the infrastructure that turned the place into a livable and economically viable region. If they had been in possession of it all this time it would just be a desolate desert.
Why don't you learn some english before you post. By the way, I hate it when people call all latinos "mexicans". Not everyone comes from Mexico!
From my understanding of History -- we fought and won the "southwest" -- then we paid for it. The then Mexican Government didnt want to abide by our laws - so the border was formed. During that time period, that part of the country was underdeveloped and they were not getting along with the Native Americans and our government saw a place to improve -- so we got it.
I guess they have forgotten who won the war and under what circumstances. I also think they smoke or snort too much of their marijuana/cocaine. To fix stupid, it requires a desire to learn and money. Most Mexicans have neither.
they're crazy
by the way I'm very pro-immigrant
I completely agree with you! Why didn't they come when we were in the process of making america so great. They wanna come and claim it now that we took care of it so well and put our hard work into it. If they're trying to make a better life I'm sure all the millions of them can go back to mexico and make a better life for the people in mexico and hopefully they will go back.
I don't understand it either, if you want to play that game than the southwest actually belongs to the Apache, Hopi, Navajo, Pueblo, & Zuni.
Squatter rights mentality. You have to know the culture. Don't blame the people from Mexico, blame the morons we put in government that pander to them.
It's ridiculous. It's based on the idea that when Spain owned Mexico, they also owned the Southwest. This is a flimsy basis for a claim. Also workign against it is the fact that Aztecs didn't live in the Southwest-- other tribes like the Hopi, Zuni, and Navaho did. Aztecs making a claim on THEIR land is imperialistic.
It's not all of a sudden. Some Mexicans have always believed it should be theirs. It used to belong to them. They lost it after the Mexican American war, but they're not happy about that. Which is understandable, since nobody's ever happy when they lose a war. Except the Democrats, I guess.
I really don't think there are very many Mexicans who believe the southwest belongs to them or want to take it back. I think there are more anti-immigrant politicians who want to spread nasty rumors about Hispanics and to encourage people to resent them.
We took over most of what used to be Mexico, not just the southwest but California too. We did this not through good-faith negotiations but through a war, because we wanted the land and just thought we deserved it because we were Americans. If you read what people said in those days you'll see--some people just believed that we just had a right to all the the land between the oceans.
In fact we killed most of the Indians with diseases that we brought over from Europe (it wasn't intentional of course) but some politicians said this was God's plan, to kill off Indians because he wanted us to have the land!
Still, you're right, we have done a lot of development on that land, and have moved a lot of people there, so of course I'm not saying we should give it back. And there's certainly no way Mexico could take it back, even if they wanted to. But, just as the land we took from the Indians, we should realize how we got it, we should be honest about it.
When we took over much of their territory, we signed an agreement with the Mexicans that they and their descendants could continue to keep their language and culture. Today some people say that this is wrong, that English should be the 'official' language and people who speak Spanish should be made to learn English in order to vote or do business.
But I think the Hispanic culture of the southwest and west are part of what make them great. I think we can all get along and respect each other, and that's what makes -America- great.
It's not all of a sudden, that sentiment has existed since the Mexican - American war.
Because Mexico is in such shabby shape right now that grasping at straws shamefully has been re-instituted.
