Why are environmentalists so concerned about a border fence?

I'm an environmentalist and I'm opposed to a border fence because... get ready for it... I believe all that claptrap about "send me your huddled masses" and how America is supposed to be a great nation that helps people. So yah, I'm all for letting people cross the border -- forget bombing Iraq, lets give food and shelter to Mexicans!

i dont see why they would be. mexico has a lot of trash on the ground. (not being racist ok...)i've been to mexico. lots of trash in TJ and in san felipe there are lots of burned cars and trash in the bushes. you'd think they'd be ok with it since the fence would keep the trash from blowing over.
Its been politicized, the radical activists from both sides are grasping at whatever they can to push their agenda's and its a shame, because we will never find a solution, but just back biting...
Because most environmentalist lean towards the left and have been brainwashed into thinking a fence will hurt America more than the millions of illegal immigrants that trampled across the border. By the way - I believe in the saying "send me your huddled masses too - I just want it done legally so we know who is coming into this country. That is the way it was done in 1920 and that worked out great. At this time, we don't know who is crossing our borders and for what reasons.
