One small example of one area (among many) where one country is keen on promoting the rights of its inhabitants first.
Perhaps their government is more concerned with the rights and future of its own people (particularly the native) rather than the interests of the elites/corporations as we have with atypical Labour Party whoring.

I would assume it is because we are part of the EU and we run by their rules on immigration rather than our own. Same goes for footballers, in terms of jobs we are effectively the same country as all in the EU.
Personally I'd like to see us out of the EU, after all, we are an island nation, we have one of the most stable currencies in the world, etc. etc. The Labour party sold out to Europe behind our backs, annoys me a lot.

May I offer a suggestion. First of all, don't listen to the EU. What can they do really? Britain still has the pound. Also, people who think that the EU will become like my home country the US are sadly mistaken. It will never get so centralized. The way I look at it the EU needs Britain a hell of a lot more than Britain needs the EU. Second point, I thought Britain was already more restrictive than us in the US. In the US, people ***** about having to learn English, when 90% of the public are native speakers. All in all, I'm with you. I don't even see asylum as a "right", as most of the claims are bogus. If the situation there is anything like it is in Germany (where I came to learn German), there are tons of BS asylum claims, and people who just have no business being here. I here them speaking their barbarian languages. I see them unemployed, with unbelievably large families. Where the hell do they get the money? Hey, Africans, Muslims, try using condoms for **** sake!! (I love your pissed off expression "for **** sake", you don't mind if I borrow it and spread it in the US do you?) I suggest we halt all third world immigration immediately. I have a solution for the boat people. Just drive your naval cruisers as close and as fast past them as possible. You didn't really shoot them, it was an accident. They'll sink, and the word will spread that illegals will be given no quarter. :)
It is called protectionism. And it is bad for the economy. Look at our economy (one of the best in the world over the time since 1997) and compare it to the economy in Indonesia over the same time period.
Most businesses in the UK would be harmed by protectionism as if we impose restrictions, other countries do the same.
About the EU, we have stricter immigration controls than the other countries in the EU. Spain and Malta have a much worse problem with immigration than we do. Yes, thanks to the EU we have no bar to immigrants from within the EU, but we still retain our borders from those outside the EU.

The labour party are happy not to push to hard on stopping illegal immigration because when they get established they vote Labour -- Keeps them in power. The Tories feel the same way because it means cheap labour. The Lib. Dems don't know which way to jump, so they have a tea party
