Do you know ofan instance where an immigrant took priority over an indigenous person in respect of being give?

Allan Johnson mp says there is no evidence of this happening, but as he is sheilded by his position from this happening to him or his family, I wondered what the true position is. I have to say it thankfully hasnt happened to me or any of mine.

Answer:
Both my self and my wife were born in the UK to English parents, I left the UK at 17 and my wife left at 15. We met each other in South Africa and got married there. We returned to the UK in 1994 and applied for a council house and benifits until I could get a job.
We were told that we were not a priority case and with the points we had been allocated we would not get an offer of a council house until 2003 (We had to two children under 16).
I was told that I was not entitled to any benifits as I had not paid any national insurance during my time overseas.
After borrowing money from family members and attending over 20 interview, we were able to purchase an ex-council house on a very run down estate. I was able within 6 weeks of returning to the UK to get a well paid job and my wife got a job shortly after this.
Across the street from us was a empty council house that became occupied by a family of Irish travellers. They told me that they had turned up at the housing department and stayed there until they were offered a house to stay in. Both parents were on benifits and the whole family can from southern island.
After living there for six months in the winter they left the house to move back to there caravan in island, they left the house in a hell of a state with several thousand pounds damages.
The house three doors down from us was vacant for several months, then a family from Bosnia were re-housed there. It started of with two adults and three children but then after three months there numbers grew to five adults and twelve kids.
The council then decided to ask the families on either side of there house to move to other houses so the families could take over the two houses.
There was isssues with criminals being housed on the same estate after leaving prison, assylam seaker, home less and drug addicts.
I short it is easy to say that immigrant get priority over indigenous people, how ever the truth is that is you are a hard working, non drug taking, non criminal UK national you will get screwed by our governement (Local or National).
Are you kidding ? I am a Londoner and here you get discriminated against immigrants every single day.

For instants if you apply for a job at the borough council, you will be told that they accept only applications from ethnic minorities at the moment. If this is no discrimination, then what is?
No, I have never seen evidence of this happening. When you say immigrants, what exactly do you mean?

There are those who come here to stay permanently. They usually have family here with whom they live until they can get their own accommodation, and often already have a job lined up before they arrive.

Migrant workers, who come here to do seasonal work are often put up in caravans near the job by the agency that hired them. Accommodation is usually part of the terms and conditions of employment.

Asylum seekers are not allowed to work, even if they have valuable skills, and are thrown into detention centres, until their case is assessed and they are either allowed to stay or are sent back to where they came from, often to face the torture or death they were running away from. When they first arrive, they are put on the Council Housing list and as they often spend years in these prisons for the desperate, they get to the top of the list in that time, and it appears that they have not had to wait to be housed.
Housing is allocated on the basis of need. So a homeless refugee family will get a house before a single native who just wants to move to a different area. Then people will say, look the immigrants got priority. But equally, a homeless native family will get precedence over a single refugee.

It is unhelpful to point fingers at one group over another. Margaret Hodge is in the government. Why doesn't she do something about getting more council housing built?
