I keep hearing some Mexican immigrant, legal and otherwise, harp that part of the southern US once was Mexico'
Answer:
Myth which is circulated by the La Raza Unida and Mecha bunch. They know that they are dealing with ignorant people that will believe anything. They figure that if they keep saying it over and over again people will actually start taking it as the truth...just like the 14th amendment guarantees citizenship to anyone that is born here. Not true but people actually believe it because it is a myth that has been repeated over and over again.
Spain gave the Southwest to Mexico but it was not Spains to give. The Indians had other ideas as to who the Southwest belonged to. Mexico never controlled the Southwest, the Indians did.
The US fought and then purchased the right to take the Southwest from the Indians.
The Mexicans can claim that the Southwest is theirs but they will have to take it from us just like we took it from the indians.
It is their way of saying that they have the right to be here...even though they broke the law to get here.
The reality is that they do not want New Mexico back...that would just make it part of Mexico, and they would have to travel further to jump the border into America.
you could give the entire continent and Mexico would still be a sewer. they lost the land and was compensated for it. If they want to start some s*#t for real let them raise an army and pick a fight with us.
Yes, I guess the grass always looks greener across the border
Only silly Mexican Illegal Immigrants say this when they have nothing else to say.
It is in actuality Property of Native America. Mexicans have no valid claim, they sold out.
Remember the Alamo..
Tell them that the USA wants all the federal aid in dollars sent to Mexico repaid before anything like that happens. Sheesh... talk about fair...
They're doing just fine in Mexico... just because they are hemorrhaging norther Mexicans into the USA doesn't mean that the rest of Mexico isn't doing fine.
The Problem, is similar to the Muslims claiming they once controlled large Areas of Europe.
illegals are illegal, they have no say here in America!
you snooze you loose are in this case if you take a siesta you loose the war.
Here is where the myth is comming from in California. It is being taught in the school by radicals:
The myth of Aztlan can best be explained by California's Santa Barbara School District's Chicano Studies textbook, "The Mexican American Heritage" by East Los Angeles high school teacher Carlos Jimenez. On page 84 there is a redrawn map of Mexico and the United States, showing Mexico with a full one-third more territory, all of it taken back from the United States. On page 107, it says "Latinos are now realizing that the power to control Aztlan may once again be in their hands."
Shown are the "repatriated" eight or nine states including Colorado, California, Arizona, Texas, Utah, New Mexico, Oregon and parts of Washington. According to the school text, Mexico is supposed to regain these territories as they rightly belong to the "mythical" homeland of Aztlan. On page 86, it says "...a free-trade agreement...promises...if Mexico is to allow the U.S. to invest in Mexico...then Mexico should...be allowed to freely export...Mexican labor. Obviously this would mean a re-evaluation of the border between the two countries as we know it today." Jimenez's Aztlan myth is further amplified at MEChA club meetings held at Santa Barbara Public Schools..
The book, paid for by American tax payers, cites no references or footnotes, leaving school children totally dependent on their teacher to separate fact from opinion and political propaganda. The book teaches separatism, victimization, nationalism, completely lacks patriotism towards the United States, and promotes an open border policy. The book is 100 percent editorial -- the opinions of the author.
As a Hispanic, I don't believe this.Mexico lost the war, end of story...There is slow change going on in Mexico right now, there is an effort for social change...They cannot have a revolution, they have gun control, people cannot revolt, so they protest...
They are saying that because all the "americans" claim that this is their land get out of it. They are just trying to show the point that it was taken from them. Just as the Native Americans tried to do, but we all see what happened to them. That's the American way, or so history makes it seems.
Yes, and I suppose we should all give it back to the Native Americans that were here first. Didn't they lose that part of Mexico in a war...pretty much the way our entire country became what it is today (with the exception of some really bad business deal by France)?
Tell them that if life is so bad there then revolt. Stop trying to ruin our country. We had our revolution a few hundred years ago and it seemed to work out pretty well.
look, to say that another country (in this case Mexico) needs social reform does not preclude the fact that our beloved U.S. does as well. the publicly subsidized education system is one example. even our court systems have taken note of the huge inequities. that you pretend to be asking a thoughtful question as a very thinly disguised racist attack is further proof that education/social reform is necessary--and FAST.
The ones that say that are the uneducated ones that have been brain washed by the Mexican activists like La Raza and others, they are very stupid people that have been trying to get land back that never belonged to them in the first place, it was Indian land. And it was the Spanish that settled the south land anyway not Mexicans. All of Southern California was settled by the Spaniards. Their were no Mexicans living in the south land until after the Spaniards came and Concord them in the 1500's. What Mexico claimed, was stolen from the Indians.
