It likely will...but fortunately, it will likely fail because those who are pushing it will settle for nothing less than amnesty.
So, everyone ought to look at the list and be sure to vote AGAINST anyone who supported it and make a statement to Congress. I will personally be voting against a man I have voted for in the last 3 elections. One of my senators was for and one against.
Mel Martinez R-Florida really wants this bill passed. He is already working on bringing it back to life. Watch for it to come back soon. They will probably do it with little fanfare, secret back door procedures and in the darkness of night. Martinez should be recalled or voted out in the next election.
Yes it is possible. The House also has bills addressing "immigration" that may very well come up in the next year and a half. I don't think it is likely though. Even the Dems and Bush should be smart enough to realize that "amnesty" is a no no.
Yes, but it won't. No one wants to get voters PO'ed at them before an election, and 82% of the legal voters don't want criminals to be given permission to come in and abuse our laws.

Possible, but as of now not very likely.
They are saying they may try to bring parts, Ag Jobs, Dream Act, the H1B visa boondoggle. up separately, but some are saying 'no way'.
However, they all went to their home districts for the 4th of July and are licking their wounds. We won't really know until they are back in session if they plan to do anything else this year, I don't think.

GringoLingo - I think they are more likely to start with the House Bill if at all. STRIVE isn't better. Well, I take that back. I don't think it has a sense of Congress to accelerate the SPP, but I'm pretty sure it still had that 10 year statute of limitations for prosecuting illegal border crossings. (I looked through it when it was first introduced but that was a while back. It DID have an UNLIMITED number of H1Bs so long as you got a degree from the worst of our colleges, though.)
What they need to do is start with a clean scratch pad, and a mindset that says this it a bare bones bill, not an opportunity to stick everyone's 'cute' provisions into.

STOP CALLING THE BILL AMNESTY! Amnesty is granting free and unquestioned citizenship to people and completely forgiving them for their crimes. The bill force illegals to pay heavy fines that most of them cannot afford. How is that amnesty? Its just a path to citizenship. I have my doubts about the bill (For example: the pointless step of sending immigrants back to their home country for a year, why the hell would you do that?) but its the best compromise the congress will ever come to.
If the government won't secure the border and uphold our laws there is no reason to believe anymore lies. Illegal is still illegal no matter what country you are from. Mexicans should have a little pride in their country and want to stay in it and make it better.
I'm sure they would like to try and sneak it in but they now know the AMERICAN people are watching them. I don't think they want another repeat of what happened last Thursday. My two senators (AZ) not only voted for the bill but had a hand in writing it. I voted for both of them, but they will never get my vote again.
