Why do you need a passport to travel between France and the UK?

How come you need a passport to travel between the UK and France, but not between France and Germany, or Germany and Austria, etc? UK's part of the EU right? So why the need for a border control?

Answer:
The UK is not part of the Schengen Agreement, which eliminated border controls between most (but not all) E.U. countries.
Because of stupid people called immigration- they make everything hard on everyone!
coz the two countries are always in competition with each other
