It sounds like Deportation would be a God Send for the poor woman. What you have described has happened to many American women in Iran. I'd imagine they'd love to be deported too but can't take their children with them so they stay.

I have a three-year-old daughter who was born mentally and physically handicapped. She will require a great deal of special care for her entire life. I'm 45, and have been working and paying into Social Security since I was 16. When I mentioned on this site that the funds that I contributed and she has a genuine right to are being depleted by noncitizens, you can guess what happened. I was met with derision, disdain, and outright hatred from pro-illegal regulars on this site. That was my turning point. My heart has hardened somewhat toward the plight of illegals. Sympathy runs both ways.
She should be held as a material wittiness until the trial is over and then deported.
In addition to the charges related to the abuse of his wife the husband should be charged with gross stupidity. Getting his wife a spouse visa would have been simple. There was no need to smuggle her into the country.
