Does anyone know the procedure for deportation?
Answer:
It depends on a few tings....
If someone is caught crossing into the country illegally from Mexico, they are processed (fingerprinted, etc) and turned over to a representative of the Mexican government.
If that same person were a citizen of a country "other than Mexico" (commonly called OTM's - "Other Than Mexican"), they are detained, processed, and generally get the choice between deportation or a hearing - in both cases, they generally find themselves on a plane back home, the hearing generally just runs up a huge tax bill for us).
Every other scenario pretty much ends up with detention, processing, a hearing and a ticket home.
It varies considerably. Illegal or legal immigrants? The rights are different when you were never 'admitted' to begin with. Plus, voluntary removal does not trigger an automatic 10 year ban as does formal deportation, and people will often agree to that, which takes less procedure. (Which is why the government often offers it to begin with.)
They are in a holding camp, there is one in Texas as a matter of fact, its part of the Department of Justice. They can't send them back until the country is notified and arranged to meet the alien which can take a few months depending on the country.
