UK Citizenship?

Does anybody know if one could claim citizenship in the UK if they are part of a commonwealth nation and/or their Mother was born in a commonwealth nation such as Canada?
Also, if a Grandmother/Grandafather was born somewhere in the UK could that also be any help to claming citizenship?
Thx !

Answer:
No, but if your Grandparents (any one of them) were born in the UK, you can get an ancestral visa which allows you to live and work in the UK. Then after 5 years you may apply for citizenship.
You will need G/parents birth cert. and marriage cert.
also that of your parent that connects you to them, their marriage cert and your birth cert.
Good luck

With ref. to your Edit:
This is the only way you will live and work in the UK.
I have gone through this twice.
Once in the 70's and in the 90's.
It will however only work with g/parents not gg/parents
As a naturalised British citizen I cannot get my daughter here even though her gg/parents were British born her grandfather was British by decent and I am British by naturalisation.
Swap you mine.
Probably not,if you're white
This Government doesn't like white people!

Hi, Johnny's answer above is corrct. You would need to get the ancestral visa based on one of your grandparents, then come and work in the UK for five years, before you could claim UK citizenship. If Canada is an option for you, you'd be better off there! Check

Good luck
Citizenship is not that easy. As previous posters have stated, you would have to live here for at least five years before applying.
