Immigration! and please Be Honest...How much would you rather pay?
The problem is that for builders to be able to make a profit out of that 140,000 home they have to hire illegal aliens...
This example also occurs in "many" other industries of the United States of American.
Arent you worried of what could happen to the U.S> economy if these people were sent back?
Do you think, that knowing this "fact" the goverment will actually do what most of the Americans want, which is send them all back?
Do you think that is virtually possible to send illegal aliens back?
If you have something to say, Please say it, but besides the feelings, also give ideas for a solution that is rational and logical..ahh and yes possible..
Thank you
Answer:
The cost to the economy by both sides of the arguement is a bit disingenuous. I agree that sending illegal immigrants home would mean higher prices for goods. But another side of costs is never discussed. Once illegal immigrants become "legal", employers would have to start paying them minimum wage (except for those areas exempt from the law). Minimum wage is much higher than what many illegal immigrants work for today. Higher wage costs are passed on through higher prices. I don't worry about the economy that much. It would certainly hurt in the short run, but work itself out in the long run similar to the business cycle.
It isn't possible to deport 12M people or at least it is very cost prohibitive to find them and then deport them. The argument to prosecute companies that hire illegal immigrants would certainly erase the jobs illegal immigrants come here for, and without work, most would not remain. This idea would also be expensive for the economy because any added regulation to business is an expense (not to mention the cost of losing the cheap labor).
Without the emotion...secure the borders first. It's a national security thing. Second, those people that are here illegally came for the jobs, not because they wanted to break any laws (yes, some of them do, but just like people all over the world most people just want to live a good life and see their kids have a better life than they did). So I would say make them legal, but not before they do the normal immigration thing. Any illegal immigrant that has already committed a felony while here would be deported.
It is not possible to send them home and the economy would crash without them.
Im glad someone on here noticed that.
That is a bunch of BS! The facts stand that they are taking large shares that should be part of the taxes that they pay...and they keep it because they don't have the illegals on the books...
SO, we pay more in taxes to off set all of the illegal aliens working here and then the illegal aliens take our social services and don't pay a cent into them...
We are PAYING for people to take the easy way out...so we already ARE paying for a $500,000 house in the first place, but it is through taxes that we pay and not mortgage!
Get a f'ing clue!
i live on the tex/mex border and those workers that you're talking about usually drive back across the river at the end of the day...the ones who've got most of America in an uproar keep traveling north, leach off of tax payers and refuse to assimilate...we'll get along fine without them
That's a moot point really ... if wages are depressed because of illegal immigration, that means nobody can afford to pay the higher prices for the houses ...
If there were no illegal immigrants working for the companies, they would have to pay American standard wages ... which means that those people who are now living on depressed wages, or are unemployed due to illegals taking their jobs, would have a decent wage again, and could afford to pay more for housing ... so all in all, it's a vicious circle ...
Either way, illegal is, and remains, illegal ... against this country's laws ... or, if we are allowed to pick and choose what laws we want to follow, maybe we should all stop paying taxes? I mean, if you are allowed to break one law, why not break another?
Its a complicated problem. Half the states of California and Arizona would be gone if all aliens were deported. I'm not sure amnesty is the solution, but we can't leave the border unsecured and an unending tide of immigrants unchecked either. I think worker visas might be a possible solution, with an available path to citizenship for those individuals who have dedicated themselves to demonstrating their desire for it(through miilitary service, civic participation, lack of criminal activities)
We build homes, my husband and I own a residential and commercial building company and that is the biggest malarkey I have ever heard. I live in one of the most expensive housing market area's in the US and we do NOT hire illegal immigrants and our prices are no higher than those who use mostly illegal labor, do not kid yourself into thinking that greedy builders pass that amazing savings down to the public. We have lost a few bids to a couple of the companies who use primarily illegal labor and your mind would be blown by the small difference in the final price and we pay our employees a decent wage and make sure all taxes are paid and workers compensation is in place to protect our workers.
Do not buy into the hype, the public does not see the savings. Its called greed.
What drives me insane is when people do not think of the citizens who lost those construction and factory jobs which by the way pay decent money for a labor job. Can anyone honestly say that American workers are not being injured? You are making the middle man rich, the builder makes a fortune but the taxpayers pick up the tab for all the special services needed by that CHEAP labor. It all comes down to $$ and it is not going in to my pocket (or yours).
I'd rather pay more for a house that was built by legal tax paying citizens than a bunch of criminals.
ILLEGAL=CRIMINAL
Total nonsense, illegals are hired for pure profit in the owner's wallet. You don't know what your talking about
First, I'd rather not live in TX..I'm a happy Californian :)
No, I"m not worried about what will happen to the US if theyre sent back...I'm worried what will happen if we dont build a wall and keep more from coming up here
No, I dont think its possible to send all illegals back..but is that a reason to not try?
Suggestion: Build a Wall!
So its more important to build a cheaper home than to keep our laws? And have you thought about the expence of illegals ?For example the cost of 1 anchor baby at the expence of the American tax payer, and once an illegal has a child they qualify for all the government assistance, what about feak id,and fruadulent papers? Bush even admitted there was a problem.I would like to see more people do the actually reseach on the cost of illegals and what the millions will cost Americas recourses.ONLY THE BIG CORPORATIONS MAKE ANYTHING OFF OF CHEAP LABOR,THEY DONOT SEND THE SAVING ON TO US,THE CONSUMERS.And in fact things cost more right now than they ever have in my life and there are more illegals here now than ever, make sence??
Some of the people talk about the not being able to get along with out the illegal's flooding our nation but don't you think that if the 20 billion dollars sent to Mexico were spent in our country we would be much better off. If the currant laws were enforced and the jobs were not there a lot would have to go back and we could catch and deport the rest and build a wall to keep them from coming back
You are assuming that the cost of labor is most of the cost of a house. This is not the case. Yes it would cost more than to use illegals but are you using this to justify using what amounts to slave labor? The cost of housing has gone up partly because many of the illegals buy houses and use them to house 4 times as many people as normal. No I am not worried about the economy if they are sent back. I am worried about the economy if they are made legal and they import their huge families. The we have to absorb another 20 million. The government on both sides of the aisle seems to want them to stay in spite of the opinions of the American public. It would be difficult to send them all back, but if you prosecute employers, they might self deport. There has to be an acceptable compromise, but it must start with concrete border control, not promises (like the fence that has never been built). Let them all apply for legal immigration and convince us that they want to be americans, not just mexicans working abroad.
I would create a bill that:
a) controls the influx, before ANY resident illegals are offered visas.
b) levies heavy penalties again people who hire illegals.
c) gives illegals the chance to make the case to a "board of immigration" that they should be allowed to stay.
d) any illegals that are allowed to stay should only be allowed to stay provided they are willing to comply with certain conditions. (Such as paying back taxes, fines, learning English and stopping sending money back to Mexico.
e) sets limits on the number of immigrants admitted per year.
f) does not allow family members to be automatically added to the list when they apply.
g) Sets up a temporary worker program based on jobs that have been advertised at at least the minimum wage before being filled by temporary workers. Temporary workers should be made to leave when their visa expires.
h) ensures that there will be no further amnesties.
Send them back one at a time, if that is what it takes. You state that we cant buy homes at a reasonable price, you're wrong. There are plenty of Americans here in my neck of town that are building homes, and the cheaper homes that you refer to fall apart are built by the illegals.
We dont need them and dont want them.
Please, your question begs the point. How much are the American people have to pay of the back end, such as schools, medical care, welfare, food stamps, wic for anchor babies and such. How about that the citizens of this country should have the right to decide who comes, when, and for how long, not the illegals who under cut the wages, of working Americans. What happens when the building slows down or stops, who will care for the illegals and their families.
Well as far as the housing market getting more expensive this is bull, developers do not pass down the savings from hiring illegal aliens. They just put more money in their pocket and charge the same price as if they are using legal Americans. They are not going to put on an invoice labor charges of $6 an hour for labor because they are all illegal they still put $25 an hour like they are using legal workers. Illegal immigrants are not used to set the price of products it is used to raise the profit margin while charging the same price. I work in the manufacturing industry where they use many illegals and they charge the same price as a company using legal people. The second point in your question is if it is better to give these people legal status and make them start paying taxes and such, which is the current legislation in congress right now. It does not work this way, and this is a basic economic and human phenomenon. Illegal immigrants work very cheap for one reason they have no choice. As soon as they obtain legal status then federal labor laws come into play. Now businesses will have to pay minimum wage and provide benefits, pay taxes, Workers comp insurance. This completely defeats the purpose of hiring illegal immigrants so they are going to again recruit illegal’s from Mexico to get cheap labor. This is the same thing that happened in 1986 when they granted amnesty without securing the borders all of the people that were legalized obtained better paying jobs and moved out of the cheap and harsh environments that they had been working in and the next influx of Illegal immigrants came in from Mexico to take there place. So this solution has already been tried and showed to fail. There is a simple solution to this problem that the federal government refuses to do. If they would set a law to fine anyone not just corporations a minimum of $500,000 fine for hiring people without proper documentation per offense the businesses in this country would quit cutting corners and hiring Illegal immigrants. As soon as all of the jobs dry up people that are here would go home to find work. This would not only get the people that are here to leave, but it would slow the influx of people from the south because they will know there is nothing to come here for. At the same time we need to focus on Securing our borders and helping Mexico take back their government and oust corruption and help to build their economy so they have no reason to leave. Thinking that once you legalize 12 to 50 million people they are going to keep working for $4 or $5 dollars an hour is completely ignorant of human thinking and economics in general and is a complete kop out by the federal government of the US not wanting to enforce immigration laws on large corporations and small business’s.
