Should a country decide who you can marry? Why can't we live with our spouces?

The Usa and now England have decided to tighten up the laws with respect to citizenship. Now in the USA you can't even be a citizen if you get married to a citizen all because the illegals are taking over. So the people who truly love a person from another country get punished. Do you think that this is freedom? You can no longer get more than a 6 months stay on a visa in England because of these laws also unless you are going to marry the person. If you are not taking up public funds then why do you have to leave a country? Why do our countries 'own' us?

Answer:
One bad apples spoils the bunch. Unfortunately all the people marrying for the sole purpose of citizenship or residence made it hard for the people that are marrying because they love each other.

It is a lenghty process, in the US, but it can be done. My landladies son's wife is Hungarian. They married in Hungary and lived there for 4 years. Then they decided to move to the states. They contacted immigration, got her a sponsor and after a couple of months apart she was allowed to move her. I don't know the process but I did see one very successful story. So I hope I got your hopes up a bit.
The government must not interfere with the personal choices of people to marry because it is a violation of their freedom.
A handful of mischief makers, and the govt., not knowing the best way to tackle them, make general laws across the board, but can't one represent the individual specific genuine case, and get justice done : should be possible. application, followed by hearing and all that!
It is crazy. my other half earns 5 times the amount of any standard worker and they still give a hard time, but they welcome immigrants who are gonna ask for housing, money, etc why is this, does the government have no brains
Sorry to disillusion you, but US citizenship has never been automatically provided to anyone who married an American citizen.

US immigration and nationality law has not changed since its last revision in 1996.

You can love anyone you want; you can marry anyone you want, provided they and you are free to marry under the laws of wherever you are when you get married. If someone wants to immigrate - even the spouse of an American citizen - they must follow existing immigration law, and this has been the case for the entire history of the US.
it wasn't illegals that caused this it was marriage fraud and unfortunately people who are really in love get caught up because there is no way to adjust the status based on marriage any longer and the 1996 law changed that so thank that Congress and Clinton for the law.
Your not owned, your free to leave at any time.
They do it all the time in the Middle East...yes, we should be careful of who comes into the country. Marriage for citizenship led to a lot of fraud. If you decide to marry someone from a combatant country or marry an illegal alien, you should be free to leave with them. You married for love right?
There has been too much marital immigration fraud, I'm afraid. It is too bad that so many bad apples spoiled the bunch.

However, you weren't a citizen if you married a citizen before, you could APPLY to be a resident, and after a period of time as a resident you can take a test to become a citizen.
My husband is a US citizen and I am from South America, we got married last year, the US government didn't choose a wife for my husband. We have been living together since we got married. My husband and I were free to marry and lived together, we followed the US immigration laws, as everybody else must.
If I would have gotten married in my native country, I would have waited for the appointed time to be reunited with my husband in the USA. I respect the laws of the USA, I do not expect special treatment because I am a foreigner. US citizens and legal immigrants must obey the law.
You say: "Now in the USA you can't even be a citizen if you get married to a citizen all because the illegals are taking over."
Where did you get that information? You do not get citizenship because you marry a citizen. Naturalization is a process that takes time and money, besides is optional, you do not have to acquire US citizenship ( freedom), you can remain a citizen of your country and live and work in the USA.

"So the people who truly love a person from another country get punished". Me and my husband love each other to death, I do not feel that I am getting punished. Obeying the law is not
a form of punishment, is showing respect for your host country.
One more time the process to get residency is long and expensive, but that's the way it is. The US government has to make sure that I am not going to be a burden or take advantage of its resources. I have no problem with that, because I work hard and live honestly. Don't you take care of your OWN finances?
I have never felt the my country or my husband's country own us. We and YOU are free to move out to a different country whenever we want to.
