What do you think of this Sheriffs Seize $195 Million in Pot Mexico Drug Growers?
The Santa Barbara Sheriff confirmed this week what many have long suspected: that marijuana cultivation is Santa Barbara County’s number one cash crop. Last Friday, Sheriff's deputies seized 61,000 pot plants growing just east of Twitchell Reservoir, which supplies water to North County residents, valued at approximately $195 million. The value of that one bust nearly equaled the value of the county’s entire strawberry crop in 2006 — $200 million. Strawberries are technically ranked the county’s top cash crop.
A Sheriff's department spokesperson estimated the other pot plants seized last year were collectively worth less than half last Friday’s seizure. Deputies arrested three men they suspect were involved in marijuana cultivation though for other charges. Those charges include lying to law enforcement officers, driving without a valid license and entering the country illegally. They have been placed on immigration holds pending further investigation. The marijuana was reportedly planted in nine separate areas covering a three-mile span and were irrigated with an elaborate and ingenious gravity- fed system.
A department spokesperson said the plants were discovered when deputies flew overhead in a helicopter
Answer:
I live in Shasta County, California, and we have the same problem of "Mexican Nationals" cultivating marijuana in our remote areas near Interstate 5. Seems they want to be close to the highway in order to get their crop to market more easily. There are regular warnings put out by law enforcement advising hunters to steer clear of any irrigated, tended areas in remote locations, as there have been incidents in the past.
Why do we continue to let them in?
It makes me want to roll one.
and how do they know they are mexicans...pot growers
The only good thing the mexicans ever did for us and the government wants to shut them down. Go figure.
EDIT: I would like to add that 61,000 plants which actually equates to about 3/4 pound per plant if in very good shape, does not translate into $195 million dollars. The going rate for a pound, if purchased in 1000 pound blocks is only about $200 to $300 per pound, maximum. Lets just say that it is $250 per pound, that is only 45,750 pounds which at $250 per pound would equal a total of $115 million max. America smokes that in an afternoon.
ALL drugs should be LEGAL.
or maybe he sells it?
AHHH come on it was only for personal use.
Wonder how much the Sheriffs kept cause ya know they didn't turn every bit of it.
