What you should do is find some kind of international company like AIG, HSBC and apply for a job in UK first. or you just come here and find a getting around job like clerk, waiter or something easier first then move on to the higher level. Welcome to USA.NYC or Cali would be the best choice for ya.
why move to this dump? why not London or Liverpool,Manchester,etc?? plus wont you miss Blair and David Beckham?

the mexicans have it down to a science,so i would start there.that way your assured to at least get IN the country.

Things are a bit fluid at the moment with the immigration debate. The easiest way right now is to get engaged to a US citizen, who can petition for your entry to the country. The whole process takes about three years - 3-6 months to get in, 3-6 months to get conditional permanent residency and two years for full residency.
If you have a degree you may be able to get a company to sponsor you. Once you are in you will want to adjust status to Permament Resident. Unfortunately, such visas are hard to come by right now. You would have to be outstanding in your field to get a job. Things may change if and when we have a new immigration law. There is talk that immigration will be based more on employment skills, b ut we'll have to see. There is going to be a lot of horse-trading before this deal is done.
If you do not have a degree have you thought of studying in the USA? That can also lead to permanent residency, but only if you play things strictly by the book.
The Green Card lottery is not an option, unless you are from NI. The UK sends too many by other means and will probably never qualify. NI does still have (I think) a separate program which allows for 3 and 6 year visas to the USA.
